Now, I'm not always late to the party. I had an iPod before most people knew what they were (a Christmas gift...I didn't even know what they were either.) And I was the first of my friends to join the not-so-elite club of gmail users.

But, last week I finally jumped on the bandwagon for two things: Livejournal and Netflix. I know, I know, how slow can I be? Seriously! But yes, I have joined the ranks of the bloggers and movie raters. It's addictive!

Why Livejournal? Well, a number of reasons, but Narnia's blog was the straw that broke the camel's back. I still don't know if I'll make a good blogger or not, but you have to admit, it's fun to do!

Why Netflix? Oh man, it's so cool. You rate movies online, and the more movies you rate the more recommendations they give you for movies you might enjoy! Not to mention we can finally watch all the TV shows we've ever been interested in. We're starting with House season 2, and then moving to 24 and Arrested Development. SO cool.

So, who else is late to the party? Any other stories of joining up after the fad has raged and started to fan out? I'm not the only one who has experienced this, right? ....right?! [Angst]

I joined Netflix last month, at my son's insistance. I've seen two movies so far. The main drawback is that I don't actually have a working DVD player. Or, rather, I have a player, but it is incompatible with my (one and only in the house) old TV. So, we have to watch the movies on the computer screen. My son used some of his bar mitzvah gifts to upgrade the computer to take discs.

I still don't have an ipod.

I'm so last century!

Dear hansenj,

Could you please elucidate on why exactly your music is The Sorcerer's Apprentice? Please.

Love,
Me

No iPod. The laptop plays dvds - - - I'd far rather use the VHS-TV, though -- even if the screen is smaller, therefore no Netflix. But then, I don't have an antennae, let alone cable, so no television programming.

We read a lot in my house. A lost art, that. Reading.

(And apparently sleeping -- at least for me -- sigh)

Dear you,

I told you on the phone yesterday why the Sorcerer's Apprentice would be in my head. That's the piece I'm playing...well pretending to play...in orchestra. [Wink]

Love,
Me

Sorry hansenj, but I think you were too late for the Ipod party. Here is why the Ipod is loosing it's cool.

If you are quick enough, you can move to the mobile-phone-for-everything-party.

quote:
'For the first time the iPod has had two consecutive falls after 17 quarters of growth. If I were the manager, I would be wanting my people to explain what is going on. The iPod is wilting away before our eyes.'

He cited new mobile phones with improved MP3 players as the cause of the iPod's dwindling appeal. 'In 2005 all the big phone manufacturers released phones that play music. Phones are outselling dedicated MP3 players by six to one. Apple had the market for MP3, but they lost it.'

No cable ever in my life.

Just got DSL about a year ago.

My new (august) cell phone is the first color one I've had.

Also got Caller ID in August.

Got a digital camera in May.

lem- Yes, but, I had one right at the beginning of their rise to fame!

breyerchic- We still don't have a digital camera. [Frown] I keep trying to convince my husband we should get one. But we're poor married students...so sad.

My dad decided I needed one so I could take pictures of his motorcycle and email them to his friends (he doesn't really do any of those things).

[Smile] Way to go, dad!

I was thrilled. But then the other day I said "my camera" and he told me it's ours. Oh well, I still use it most.

I was very late to the party for a cell phone. We've had one for about 10 months now. I've probably talked on it about a dozen times.

Ditto, and I prefer it that way.

Color? Um . . . my cell phone is silver. [Confused]

I mean the screen. My old one was black and white screen, with a blue backlight. This one is more like a computer screen.

Oh! Ok, mine has a color screen. This is important.

It means that the animations when I turn it on or off are in color. [Wink]

Stupid multi-function phones...thats a party I wish I could firebomb.
I wish they would just concentrate on making phones even smaller rather than throwing on mp3 playing, camera capabilities, games, or whatnot.

I'm reminded of those old beer commercials, "If I wanted water, I'd ask for water!"

No cable, No antenna. But, I can play DVD and VHS at home. My primary music reproduction device is my Sony TC230W. I have a turntable, a nice TEAC reel to reel (it has a faster tape speed than the Sony can handle), a small cassette deck and an AM-FM tuner connected to it. The media that I use most are FM radio and the turntable. My camara, Pentax K1000, is the last one they made that dosn't require batteries to work. However, Photoworks is good about making digital copies of the pictures avalable on the net. I guess my question is What Party?
EDIT
Oh, I guess I should add that all of my kids actually learned how to read.

We do have an Antenna, actually, 2 antennas, the second was added in the mid 90s so we could watch The Simpsons. But umm, still that's 10 tv channels.

No cable, no Netflix, I do have a blog (but not with LiveJournal), no cell phone, no caller ID, no IPod, and we just got a digital camera for Christmas last year. What do I win?

I have several blogs, ages ago I got a cell phone because my real phone got cut off. It wasn't so bad. I like cell phones now. Don't have an Ipod, will NEVER get cable because who needs it when you got netflix?
