It is extremely rude to delete a thread like that, General Sax. Many people put time and effort in it.

You can bet I won't partcipate at all in any thread you start any time soon.

edit: change title to get General Sax's attention.

(you said *@#$)
What happened at the end of it?
I was out getting Chinese food and it moved too fast for me anyway.

Might've been Pop, you know, mph.

This is why I don't get attached to threads. If I consider myself smart, I should be smart enough to remember the points I wrote down again...

I don't think I've ever seen Pop delete a thread without saying something.

Also, I'm not very smart.

If a thread gets deleted by site management, I would hope that there would be an explaination given first.

Posted by Stan the man (Member # 6249) on :

Pops would lock it first. Explain it and then delete it.

Out of curiosity, which thread was it?

The 'Bill Frist Gets Nekkid On the Capitol Steps and Sings 'A Man Named Jayne' thread.

Man, it was glorious.

The Boy Scouts/Homosexuality/Propriety thread.

Hey, I said, 'Nekkid.'

I'm just as sinful as MPH.

I am.

Scott: If Hillary would do that, I'd vote for her.

Everyone else: I'm not torn up about that thread going away. It was pretty dang hurtful all around...

Haha. You read my mind Porter.

For the record, if someone ever decides that they've made a mistake in posting rude, hurtful remarks and wants to rectify the situation by removing them, it's possible to do so without deleting the remarks of others.

Simply edit the first post and remove everything. Then add "<snipped>" to the post and save it.

All the other posts can simply be deleted.

It's not about caring, it's about behavior. I thought we had that firmly established.

And I...er... nah. You're right.

I'm better than you. I admit it. Humbly.

[ROFL] Scott, sometimes you crack me up. Thank you. I've been feeling down all day, and I don't know why.

I can speak from experience that Pop lets people know when a thread's getting deleted...

And gives explainations.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

But Pop is not the only one who deletes threads. I had a thread deleted, no warning, no explanation. It happened while I was sleeping and I woke to find emails from Hatrackers asking about it. I had no clue. [Smile]

Posted by cmc (Member # 9549) on :

Do you mean it got deleted by someone who 'should' have deleted it or someone who just decided to do it the 'wrong' way?

Stinks if it's the latter...

Posted by cmc (Member # 9549) on :

Sorry for the double post - but wow... I must have missed something.

See what happens when I have people over for dinner? I miss a thread I was actually interested in (apparently) spinning out of control. Then again - maybe I'm glad I missed it...

If General Sax didn't delete the thread, he's certainly welcome to say so.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

cmc, sometimes other administrators delete threads that they consider inappropriate. So no, quids is not saying anyone did anything wrong.

I could always host the first five pages . . .

Why not keep it gay?

Thanks for clarifying my thoughts, Eljay. [Smile]

I was working hard to take back Het for all us breeders. It's pretty difficult to make headway against that sort of thing without threads being deleted.

Posted by TheHumanTarget (Member # 7129) on :

I guess this means we should just start a new thread...

As always, I'd like to voice my displeasure for whomever decided to delete everyone's posts. If it was the topic starter, then I think it was a reprehensible action.

If it was an admin, I would appreciate an explanation. Though I certainly understand if they don't feel the inclination or need to share it.

General Sax promised to stop if he offended. Maybe he finally realized that he HAD offended...and stopped.

Somewhere, out there in cyber-space, he's stuck in a rigid pose, having been faced with a conundrum from which he could not escape.

Or...

The mods thought the thread had taken on a far-too-personal tone and deleted it.

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

Sorry that I deleted the thread guys. Oh shoot. Well, cats out of the bag, Pop made me a moderator. I guess all I can say in my defense, in the immortal words of Homer Simpson: "It's my first day."

*bump* for General Sax, now that he's posting again, so he can either know how his deletion was received, or to give him the chance to let us know that I judged him too hastily.

Posted by General Sax (Member # 9694) on :

Ah, a bob spock insisted that I do as I promised and delete my offensive posts, however after I did the first one the whole thread vanished... He did not tell me that would happen but I was repeatedly insulted in a series of posts by him just before I edited it for his benefit, trapped by my own promise. I am sure I am not the first he has attacked, it seemed very practiced, so I decided if he was common to the Hatrack Community I could live without it.

However there are innocuous topics of interest to me that I am sure will not violate his political views (felt like I was back in poly sci in college) so he can attack my impressions of Battle Star Galactica or my hopes for a lunar colony if he wants to try to beat me up, I am sure he will look more like the man he is in doing that then in pretending to be a champion for the Left.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I didn't read the thread so I don't know who "bob spock" is but if you go to edit a post it tells you that if you delete the first post in a thread, the whole thread will be deleted.

Who reads all the fine print on a every mouse click? I just usually get to the "This sight is intended to be viewed by adults...."

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

Well, I'm sorry I was so angry at you. I thought you had done it on purpose.

Posted by General Sax (Member # 9694) on :

As I recall there were a large number of people who felt you were out of line because you do not spend hours in intimate contact with other women out of love for your wife, as if they had a right to judge or interfere with a man and his wife. It pained me almost as much to see you have to defend common sense from the assault of world as we wish it was as having to defend myself for feeling that the Boy Scouts and MAMBLA are incompatible.

Still, if my own wife did not post here under my name I would not have been back at all, I forgot my password...

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

I wouldn't call it intimate contact, but you're mostly remembering correctly.

Even so, I was very upset at having the thread deleted.

Posted by cmc (Member # 9549) on :

General Sax - it defintely was a 'whoa' moment when the thread was gone... I had put a bunch into it (more that usual) so I was a bit bummed out when it was deleted. Glad to know the reason.

On a different note - it would also be a bummer if you quit posting because of a silly misunderstanding/bad experience. I know that I've had one - but it's been that much better since I just kept on posting while keeping whatever it is I learned in mind. Not trying to lecture or anything, at all, just saying glad you're back and if it's something you enjoy, please stay.
