I just watched "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"

What suprises me is that religious people don't take offense at the way Shulz portrays Linus' irrational religious beliefs.

What's to be upset about. Linus portrays a gallant and long suffering believer in a world of secularists. Sure, there is no glorified overt prize for his steadfast faith, but that moment at the end where he demonstrates that his faith endures not only in spite of that lack of proof, but because of it, is one of the most poigant analogies for realistic faith and its power I've seen portrayed.

Look at Linus. He believes despite pressure from family and society to adapt. He believes despite the opinions of those some would deem more intellectual or intelligent. He believes not to get the candy, the reward or to get the girl. He believes because it is who he is, and the world, Charlie Brown's world, is a much better place for it.

Maybe they're aware that Sparky -never- portrayed Linus' Christian beliefs as irrational, just his confusion between Halloween and a secular Christmas figure? [Smile]
