I'd been wanting to see it, but I forgot all about the advance showing until it was too late.
I lovedThe Last Samurai, so I had high hopes for this film.
Is it any good?

You know, I have a certain respect for Leonardo DiCaprio as an actor, but I wish they'd stop trying to cast him as gritty tough guys. Leo, you've got genes that make you look about 15. In another ten years, you'll be grateful for this, but in the meantime...

I've grown to respect Leo over the years. i also loved The Last Samurai, and really want to see this film, even though the trailer didn't really do much for me, and Leo's accent is sort of bugging me. The strength of Samurai will at least keep me interested in this.

Have you seen the film in question, or are you just extrapolating from some previous impression? I haven't see this particular film, myself, but I though Leo was fantastic in The Departed and was very convincing as a "gritty tough guy". (And kinda hot now that he's not looking so much like a 15 year old boy.)

I thought that The Aviator was very well done. He was a phenomenal actor in that.

Hey I OWN Whats Eating Gilbert Grape and Leo was just perfect for the role he played in that movie.
No I am not making a jibe at his playing a retarded character, and how it was easier to do so because of an innate retardedness on his part.

I'll admit I'm extrapolating. But I did see The Departed, and The Aviator, and Gangs of New York,, for that matter, and while- as I say- I think he's become quite a good actor, I think he's trying a little too hard to play against type. I can believe the sensitive soul, or even the bad boy, but the world-weary grizzled type? Bit of a stretch.
Perhaps the concensus is I should see the movie and whether he pulls it off. I'll be curious to hear what others think.

Based on the teaser I saw, it looks good, and Leo looks like he might pull it off. I usually don't put much stock in teasers, but either the movie actually has a lot going for it, or this particular teaser is just extra well done. I think I'll see it.

Missed The Departed, but I'm going to see Blood Diamond Friday night with my brother, I'll report back.
I don't really know much about it, just that it looks better than anything else that's out right now except Bobby, which my brother doesn't want to see.
He does, from the previews anyway, look to be pulling off the adult serious actor thing much better than I thought he'd ever be able to. I'll watch with a seriously open mind.

Saw this earlier tonight. This is the review of Entertainment Weekly. It's full of crap. This movie was fantastic. There's a difference between being preachy and being truthful. If someone watches this and feels guilty, I don't think it's the movie's fault. It only gets "preachy" at the very, very, very end, for about 15 seconds where they do a little epilogue on the situation, and blood diamonds in general.
Leonardo Dicaprio was utterly amazing in this movie, as were Hounsou and Connelly. I didn't know what was really going to happen until the last 10 minutes of the movie or so, and it always kept me guessing. And without giving too much away, I've never been more sad at a happy ending. Amazing acting, gripping story, and yes, a moral message that you take away all by yourself. It's Hotel Rwanda combined with Blackhawk Down in some ways.
It's a very graphic movie though, I'll warn you all now. People get mowed down without care throughout the movie. But I recommend this to anyone who isn't totally turned off by the violence, there's a message in there, and there's some fantastic acting, and a great story, that will leave you sad, depressed, happy, crying, breathless...and more.
I went in not expecting much, and I ended up on a roller coaster ride of emotion. The movie was two hours long, and it felt like four, and that ISN'T a bad thing, because while I wanted the violence to stop, I didn't want the movie to end. You'll see why when you see it. Fantastic movie, one of the best (of the dozens I've seen) movies I've seen this year by far.

Djimon is a great actor, and I'm getting over my anti-Leonardo bias after seeing The Departed. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this one.
