I know that no question is a dumb question, so...

Do PS1 memory cards work on a PS2 for PS2 games? I just got a used PS2 and someone here in town is selling a used PS1 memory card for $1.

nope...well, you can, but only to save PS1 games. PS2 games require a PS2 card.

I have another question.

One of my games says that it requires a Dualshock2 analog controller. One of my controllers is one of the new white PS1 analog controllers. It is sixaxis and has all of the same buttons as the Dualshock2. It works with other PS2 games with no problem, but this particular game won't do anything when I get to the memory card screen. I don't have the memory card yet, so I try to say it's ok to play without the card, but nothing happens no matter what button I hit, and regardless of whether the analog light is on or off.

Does this mean I also need to get a PS2 controller, or does this sound like a memory card might be required to play, even though it gives me the option to play without one? (meaning the software has a glitch).

Yep, it means you need a PS2 controller but you can buy them used dirt cheap so I would not worry too much about it taking a bite out you your wallet.
