After these past few weeks of ridiculous stress, I told my boss I was taking off for a few days after Christmas, and I think the mildly insane glint in my eye coupled with my record of (imho) stellar work this season convinced him to let me do it, despite the short notice. Or at least, he immediately responded with "Yeah, sure, no problem!"

In short, I'm going to be in SoCal (Van Nuys, specifically) from the 26th through the 28th and although it's primarily to visit family, my parents will likely be spending a lot of time fussing over my brother (who is marching in the Rose Bowl). So I figure...maybe time to meet some SoCal jatraqueros?

If you're in the area and would be interested in getting a cup of coffee or whatever it is you crazy LA types do, post? [Smile]

The 28th is my husband's birthday. I will see if he wants to celebrate it with a Jatraquero (if you'll be around then...)

(Or if not we will totally still meet you for dinner somewhere or something.)

Woohoo! Ketchup encounters!

I'm e-mailing you my phone number via your profile addy.

I'm interested, though I'd have to bring a kid or three with me, and perhaps a spouse depending on the time. Dinner always sounds good to me, of course, but gotta check with Mama before anything would be a "go." If we can see you and the ketchups it'd be cool, too.

I wasn't planning on anything family unfriendly, so by all means, plus kids. [Smile]

eros, e-mailed you. Talk to the Meeses and get back to me. We'll work out what works for you and them. [Smile]

If you see my brother, be nice...except if he's with his girlfriend. Then you should probably embarrass him.

(She's in marching band too.)

Tentatively, it looks like dinner on the 26th somewhere in the Burbank area in the evening. Any other jatraqueros interested?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yeah, 26th works for us too-- I sent out an e-mail with some restaurant ideas. Let me know what sounds good.

In case anyone wants to show up last-minute, we are meeting tomorrow at the IKEA Burbank restaurant, tentative time 5:30-ish.

Oooh, this is gonna be fun!

Have fun, kids. [Smile]

eros, I can't do Burbank tomorrow night (some of us have regular work-weeks this week, you know [Wink] ). Especially since I wouldn't be able to eat anyway.

But if you might also be available Wednesday night, drop me an email. [Smile]

Did both of you get the e-mail I sent with the information last night? Just want to make sure. [Smile]

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Last night? I got an e-mail from you yesterday morning. Nothing last night.

I'll be in Escondido (north of San Diego) in January or February to visit family.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Was it the morning? I thought it was last night. Gosh, I can't even remember. We were up to a lot yesterday. [Smile]

Anyway. Wanted to make sure you both got the info, including KPC's cell, that's all. [Smile]

Darn! I wish I could make it...I'm a county away, but am up to my eyeballs in busy. The 27th is my GFs birthday, and I've just got done managing three christmas's (both my parents and hers) with one more to come after the new year.

Well, have fun anyway!

We (in NorCal) hate SoCal.

[Razz]

That's too bad. We (in SoCal) love NorCal (is that an abbreviation? Never seen it before. [Razz] )

Speak for yourself.

It's nice to visit, but I'd never want to live there!

Those in the north are No Cal. And we in the south are So Cal. Makes them northern folk feel bad, so they try to compensate.

Well, actually, I feel the same way. But my "we" meant "my family." My "(in SoCal)" meant, "who, as a family, live in SoCal." [Wink]

Totally, totally stealing that. [Big Grin]

Two plane rides later, I'm in Van Nuys, and sneezing a bunch (plane rides always make my sinuses and allergies go nuts due to the dehydration, especially when I sleep).

I think through sheer luck, I may have access to a car, so I don't have to take two $35 cab rides, yay!

See y'all there in about 2.5 hours.

Hey, am I getting a follow-up email from you or what?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

It was a quite awesome time. [Cool] So sorry those of you who couldn't make it didn't.

Heh. That's exactly how I feel about SoCal now that I'm living in the Bay Area.

Sorry about no follow-up e-mail rivka; I just sent you one. The freakin' power went out, and it was still out when I left this evening and I just got home.

It was a good 'ol time meeting KQueen, KPC, The Princess, Her Royal Heinzness, Papa Moose, Mama Squirrel, Squoose, Superstation and...and...I'm sorry guys, I tried to remember all of them, but I'm really bad with names. If it's any consolation, I think I remember everyone's real names!

Kqueen and Papa especially are more or less exactly what I expected them to be. [Smile]

I hate when that happens. (Huh. Is the power outage because of the winds?)

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

So the news stories say. How ironic that I flew from Seattle, with its recent horrendous winds & power problems, to Burbank, only to be confronted by the same problems. [Frown]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Yeah. That sucks. [Frown]
