I'm still annoyed at the whole Nicole Kidman thing. She is so not who I would have thought of for Mrs. Coulter. In the book, iirc, Mrs. Coulter is described as having dark hair. So maybe if they dyed Nicole Kidman's hair I'd be okay with it. But it doesn't look like they do. Bah.

Phillip Pullman had Kidman in mind for Mrs. Coulter when they began casting. He was very pleased with the news.

Nicole Kidman suits the role perfectly, I think.
I am getting ridiculously exited about this film considering how much more likely it is going to suck than to be watchable.

I can. I do not like Nicole Kidman. Mrs. Coulter is silky-soft-warm evil. Nicole Kidman is just hard, cold,and witchy. And she is NOT blond. And that does bother me.

No. But some things are easily dealt with like hair color, for instance. I'm not going to be nearly as annoyed with however they portray the dæmons because that's a very personal thing to imagine.
When an author says someone's haircolor is a certain shade of brown, and the actress chosen to portray her has hair that's a very definite shade of blonde, that's a little more annoying.
I'm somewhat resigned to it due to the author's desire to see Kidman casted. I still think they could have dyed her hair brown though.
