I just stumbled across this, and it seemed very cool. I can't wait until they figure out to make this work and generate more power.

That's very cool.
I don't know what the level of embodied energy is in those wires, but if they developed a more efficient version, maybe it could be used to line the interior of walls and floors, then hooked up to a battery in houses and other buildings?

I would imagine on how much energy you intend to generate. I saw this as similar to the tidal electric generator....they are both just harnessing energy from something that is going to happen one way or another, with or without the generator in place.

I know of another project (was it by a student?) which involved paving busy streets with large button-like tiles that can be pressed down just slightly when walking over them; capturing the mechanical energy and hopefully turning it into usable electricity.
