What's your favorite story featuring non-canonical happenings for well known characters?
(This question was prompted by reading Into the Great Unknown from Star Wars Tales #19...a story that covers the death of Han Solo, the truth about where the legend of the Sasquatch came from...and some guy named "Dr. Jones".)

Superman Returns was non-canonical, wasn't it?
Pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease
But it's not a favorite, so it hardly counts.
Alan Moore's "death" of Superman jumps to mind.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
Yeah. That has a nice quote:
"This is an imaginary story...aren't they all?"

I just read this for my comicbook superhero class last week, and it is excellent. Posted by Mig (Member # 9284) on :

I haven't read it in over a decade, but I remember really liking "The Seven Percent Solution." I'm a big Holmes fan, so I expected the story not to live up to its source, but it really surprised me. Of course, you'd never mistake it for a Doyle original. But the author was able to make the story his own in a way that was faithful to the canon without devolving into imitation or parody.
Of course, I might feel differently if I read it again today, but that's how I remember it.
