Have you read this C.S. Lewis novel? I just finished it and surprised myself by liking it - I like very few science fiction books prefering fantasy. I'm trying to formulate my thoughts on it and figure out what main theme really jumped out at me. There were so many though! I need to write a response essay and I'm having the hardest time. Its an independent study class and I'm really missing class discussion with this one. Want to be my class? [Big Grin] Tell me your thoughts....

Well, Out of the Silent Planet is really more fantasy than sci-fi, when you think about it. Same goes for Star Wars.

I vaguely recall OSC talking about those three books as an example of how to not write science fiction, but I don't recall where I read that.

Thats interesting because as I read it I was very much reminded of the planet Ender goes to live on after he leaves Earth (the details escape me at the moment). Several passages in OOTSP made me think of OSC books.

I enjoyed those books, but I've never gone back and read them again. I liked the Venesian (Venerial?) one the best.

I've read the series multiple times. All of the books were so different that it's hard to choose which one I like the best, but I think that the third one is probably my favorite. It's been a long time since I read any Wells, but I seem to recall that Out Of The Silent Planet borrowed a fair bit from The First Men In The Moon.
