plaid's thread on female sf/fantasy authors inspired me to google The Black Trillium, one of my favorite books from adolescence, and one that I reread occasionally.

Wow! There's quite a bit I didn't know about this book. I knew it was a collaboration, but I didn't know they each wrote a character separately. Nor that there were sequels!

Needless to say (heh) I'm fairly excited about this. But a little reticent. Is anyone familiar with these and able to give comment?

[Edited for horrible horrible spelling.]

Well, I figure no one has any information on the sequels, but just in case I'm bumping this. I'm gonna make an order through B&N* today, and before I take a stab in the dark on which one to buy, maybe someone can make a suggestion.

*who's link through Hatrack appears not to be working. Wonder why? I went ahead and linked through another forum nearby that recently added B&N links.

Sorry, I didn't think to read this before. I've been very hit-n-miss on all my boards lately.

I do have 3 of the 4 at home. If I remember correctly, it's Black, Sky, Blood and maybe Amber? The one with the name I can't quite remember didn't seem to fit into the series as well, though. Entirely written by one of the triad, focused on one of the sisters, and seemed to overlap in places.

Jullian May?

I think I have an ex-library copy of Blood Trillium on my shelves. I always wondered if it was any good...

Thanks for responding!

Wikipedia has these listed:

-Black Trillium (1990, by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Julian May, and Andre Norton)
-Blood Trillium (1992, by Julian May)
-Golden Trillium (1993, by Andre Norton)
-Lady of the Trillium (1995, by Marion Zimmer Bradley)
-Sky Trillium (1997, by Julian May)

Lady is set way in the future of the first, and is only about one sister, as is Golden. Blood and Sky have all three sisters. Apparently each author contradicts the others in the sequels, so they're not really canon. I've never read anything by any of them independently though.

So, I'm thinking of getting Blood. Do you remember anything about them?

Does Julian May have other good books that may indicate her sequels would be better?

Golden was the one I was thinking of. I guess I was sort of close LOL.

I remember bits and pieces, but I'm not sure how much I can tell without posting potential spoilers. The sad thing is that I just read these a couple months ago, so obviously they didn't make much of an impression. Of course, the way I devour books, that may not be such a surprise.

The only one I really had a problem with was Golden. And I didn't know about Lady at all.

I'll swap you something for my copy of Blood Trillium. Or I would, except my copy's a little battered and probably isn't worth the trade for you.

Well, since they don't carry any of the sequels on B&N, a battered copy is better than no copy. But you don't have to do that, I'm sure I can find a copy at second hand store, or on Amazon or something.

It does look like Blood Trillium is the way to go though, based on Goody Scrivener's comments, and my own shot-in-the-dark assumptions. Did you enjoy it Eaquae Legit?

Oh, if you were trying to decide which one next??? Absolutely Blood. This isn't one that you can jump out of sequence, not on the primary three, at least.

I've never read it. I only have the one and I refuse to start a series in the middle. It's been at least 7+ years and I've never seen any of the other ones.

Also, I'm on an excess book clearout kick right now, trying to make room on my shelves for the new books I keep buying.

Read her The Saga of the Exiles, and associated prequel, Intervention. Read Intervention first. It's about first contact with intergalactic intelligences, and the Exiles is about renegade people who can't handle life as it becomes after Intervention and escape to the Pliocene Age where they do stuff, really interesting stuff. There are about 6 or so books in the series, and it's REALLY GOOD. I've read the whole series 3 times, this makes me want to read it again.
