My husband's insurance kicked in, and we were able to get me on his dental insurance (they let you pick what you want and pay up to a certain amount; he was able to get health and dental and me get dental and still not pay anything. The kids are covered under Healthy Families, the state low-cost health/vision/dental insurance system for kids. He and they all have Kaiser. I didn't want Kaiser because I wanted to keep my doctor. Eventually we will be finding a Blue Cross plan or something that covers what we want for me but it's not in the budget this year.)
So anyway, I now have dental coverage. Some of you know I've been having huge problems with my wisdom teeth. Like, for years. They're coming in and all but one are impacted; the lower right one is actually exposed, and sideways to the other tooth. The one that's not technically impacted is so crowded that it can't fully come in. I also have TMJD and migraines, and the wisdom teeth have been aggravating both conditions.
Long story short, I love having dental coverage. We just called the UCLA School of Dentistry (because I'm pregnant, and if I'm getting work done while I'm pregnant, I want world-class people available to deal with any complications that arise; the UCLA School actually lets you choose whether you want a student, resident, or faculty member to do most parts of the work, with fees based on the provider you choose.) So even if I choose to have all my work done by the most expensive people, it will be less than $400, including general anesthesia (we pay 20% for oral surgery and related procedures, 0 for diagnostic and preventative services.) Hooray for dental insurance!!!

Yes, it's a relief, I had to have my wisdom teeth removed, they were also impacted and I didn't have insurance and had to save up and do them one at a time as I could afford them. Not fun.
Does anybody know if oral surgery is usually considered health or dental? My daughter has a cyst in her mouth that must be removed and I don't know which insurance is going to cover it.

Belle, I would think a cyst could be covered by either, and it probably depends where you get it done and what kind of tissue is involved.
