He pulled out of the grocery store shopping lot as I was driving past it and rammed right into the passenger side of my car. Thank God no one else was in the car with me.
I saw him coming, and I knew I couldn't stop, but I stamped on the accelerator hoping to hop past him. All I succeeded in doing was moving the damage from the front of the car (possibly damaging the stuff under the hood) to putting a big dent in the back door and the frame around it.
I'm not hurt, but I'm having some serious problems focusing. And my patience is non-existent (which is probably what most of y'all think is the case anyway).

I'm glad your ok. Now the big question, did he have insurance. Someone almost backed into me just yesterday.
I too could have been rammed, but no such luck. I haven't been rammed in a long time.

He had insurance, and he admitted fault. If he hadn't, I might have paid him a visit.

I'm so sorry, Lisa. I'm glad you're not hurt and that he's admitting fault. Now here's to hoping his insurance company doesn't try to play games.

I'm glad you're not hurt Lisa. It's amazing how frazzling even a minor accident can be. I hope you get your focus and patience back soon, and that the insurance works out OK.

Good golly, Lisa! I'd love to come to Chicago some time to meet you, but I'm a little nervous. Since I've known you here, I've heard how you've been rammed, gone over a cliff, down an elevator shaft, and, oh, there was something else, wasn't there, that I'm forgetting.
Baruch Hashem you're OK. It was a kaporah that it was just a dent in the car and not YOU that was hurt.

Hi Lisa,
I had the same thing happen about 2 years back, except I applied brakes rather than the accelerator and it was my front end that got smashed. The insurance company decided to total my car, but I balked on accepting their settlement for quite a few weeks and ultimately got from them about three times as much as they had initially offered. (I was looking into salvaging the old car.) I was able to buy a car to replace the totalled one; it's a junker but it runs and I really wanted no payments so it all worked out okay.
I hope that you are well. Go to the chiropractor and get checked out if that's something you believe in; the insurance should pay for that!

You know, I was on my way to pick up our arba minim. You'd think that shluchei mitzvah einan nizakin, right? Makes me wonder if HKBH really wants me to be doing mitzvot.

To add to what Uprooted said (and this is sadly speaking from experience -- a woman ran a red light and hit my wife, totaling our little VW Jetta):
Before you go to the chiropractor, go see your general practitioner. Get the GP to check you out and send you to a chiropractor. That will help with the insurance claim. If you don't like the idea of chiropractic care, get something -- X-rays, physical therapy, etc. The problem with these types of accidents is that the issues that they cause may not be completely apparent afterwards. But if you don't take the steps to find out what might be wrong immediately, then the claims adjustors pull the whole "chiropractic scam" card and you may end up needing a lawyer.
A letter from your GP and some back up from some specialists, including a prescribed course of treatment really helps.
Luckily, we ended up getting a decent settlement (and the driver totally admitted fault and their were witnesses, etc.), but it took 18 months of wrangling first.

I actually did kind of hurt myself in the accident, but it's not anything I can claim. I generally drive with my left hand. Just my left hand. Unless conditions are hazardous, of course. I rest my right arm on the arm rest, and it rarely does anything while I'm driving. It's weird, since I'm a righty, but that's how I drive.
So when I saw the guy coming, my right arm slammed up to the steering wheel (I have freakishly fast reaction times in the car, but it's all on an unconscious level), and I bruised myself at the base of my thumb. It was bugging me all last night, and it's still bugging me. But since you're really supposed to be using two hands to drive, I don't think this is something I can complain about.

That's why there was a kaporah (merciful intervention)!
I'm sure that HKBH (The Big Guy) is a stand-up dude.
