*sigh* This is why odd numbered amount of students is a bad idea, in 2 of my compsci classes were all supposed to be teams of 2.

when there's 19 people there's one always left out.

And that's always me [Frown]

Now I have to do the work of 2 people in 2 classes and make up for the hmwk I'm behind on because of the dang weekend at the army.

Usually, in situations like that, the odd person out joins with one of the existing pairs. If you don't feel comfortable asking one of the pairs if you can join them, see if your instructor will group you with one of them.

I know it's rough Blayne. Even though I am confident in myself as a person and have plenty of friends, growing up I always hated it when teachers asked the class to find a partner rather then pairing us up themselves. I just don't do well when it comes to approaching somebody and asking them to be my partner as it feels like a very awkward situation especially when the person you ask says no.

Either you let the class exclude you, by letting this trend continue to set in or start befriending a cute girl or decent fella in the class and the next time they ask you to pair up immediately ask them to pair up with you. In my experience most people will say yes when asked just because it's kinda rude to say no. Although they might initially be kinda hesitant, by just being friendly the shyness goes away and it's down to business from there.

I think Noemon's got it right. Anytime I've seen a similar situation occur there's been one group of 3 people. I'm surprised the teacher would allow you to be on your own.

What's worse (IMO) is being the odd girl out in a lifeguarding class. I was always horribly uncomfortable being the vic for, say, spinal rollover practice. Nothing like strange guys getting very up close and personal when you're in your bathing suit...

Anyway, that sucks, Blayne. I'd go with what Noemon said, and try to get into a group of three. Most people I know are welcoming of a third in such situations, because their workload gets shared around accordingly.

Yeah but...nobody likes a Third, even if they are sanctioned...

Yeah, but it was always fun to threaten revenge... [Evil Laugh]
