I didn't even know about this, but I'm very excited now. I've loved every single one of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's movies.
Speaking of, has anybody here seen Nausicaa, Miyazaki's first movie? I just recently watched it (came out in 2005 in the states, I believe) and it's sheer and utter brilliance. Maybe not one of his best works, but it's still one of the best movies I've ever seen. Just like all the rest of his. Heh.

*cough* Miyazaki's second movie, at least if we're counting movies he directed. He did Castle of Cagliostro first.
Then he founded Ghibli and did Laputa, and the rest is history
Nausicaa is brilliant. If you have a chance, read the manga (also his work), which is even more brilliant (and significantly expanded).

Oh, heh. I was basing my info on the "History of Studio Ghibli" thing that's in the extras on the Nausicaa DVD. They never mentioned Castle of Cagliostro.
As for the manga, I'm definitely interested. Is there an English translation?
Did you know that Miyazaki originally wrote the manga in order to get the go ahead to make the movie? When he originally approached producers with the idea, they said it would never sell because there wasn't a popular manga that it was based on. So what did Miyazaki do? He made one of course!
EDIT: According to Wikipedia, that might not actually be correct.
"According to the "Birth of Studio Ghibli" featurette, Miyazaki only wrote the manga because Studio Ghibli film producer Toshio Suzuki was unable to get funding for a film that was not based on a manga[1]. However, other sources have it the other way around: Miyazaki started the manga on the condition that it would never be made into a film. He later agreed to do a fifteen-minute OAV, but Animage editors eventually convinced him to make an entire feature-length film[2]."
EDIT #2: Looks like there is an English translation, and my library has copies of the four "Perfect Collection" books. Not sure if they contain all of it though. Definitely going to check them out, however.

Was it as bad as a Wrinkle in Time because that was TERRIBLE.
Also I have the whole Nausicaa series around here somewhere. It's awesome. It's fantastic! It's one of the best things ever!
