I didn't even know he had cancer till I read the article. He was a great actor, director and producer.

edit to add: and I would have said "Out of Africa" or "The Way We Were".

Same here. I haven't seen a lot of his movies, but the few I've seen him in and by him were good and I liked him, and I'm sad that he's gone.
