So... was that a happy ending or a sad ending?

I honestly can't decide. I think a happy one. Though I cried like a baby.

I've watched the first ep and a half of Ashes to Ashes now, and it's not nearly as good. I also doubt I'll be able to enjoy the US version of Life on Mars. Gene Hunt is such a mix of total jacka** and noble that I can't imagine them doing him right. And I know that the guy they have playing Sam in the US pre-air is simply awful. No emotional range whatsoever.

The role of Annie is bound to be different, if only because women's advancement in areas like the police was so different in the US and the UK. There were policewomen in the US in 1973 who were far more a part of the force than any WPCs in England, if the UK LoM is any indication.

The 16 eps of Life on Mars are some of the best TV I've ever had the pleasure of watching (even if I did miss a lot of cultural cues and slang). Thanks to everyone who suggested it.

I finally convinced my Dad to watch it.

He loves it. His comment: "This is how the real world should be."

Yes. This is reflective of women's roles in general.
