I guess hurricanes are more urgent but it's scary here, all you can see is water, the sidewalks are flooded over my neighbors house is filled with water, so we're taking care of their dog.

Argh it is scary. [Embarrassed]

Oh i just realized that it must only be in my area, We went to get new glasses and two blocks away the water level was so low compared to the three feet near my apartment. > [Big Grin]

I didn't realize you were another Chicagoan till now. Yeah, we got dumped on. I was in Wheaton (DuPage Cty) overnight and all of the streets in the subdivision I was at were flooded over. Made getting home this morning really interesting, especialy as it was still pouring hard enough to cut visibility to near nothing.

The weather guys were saying yesterday that this is in fact the leading edge of Ike. We also had Gustav rains last week that weren't this bad, and we had remnants of either Katrina or Rita.

We decided to visit family in Wheaton on a whim today, and BOY is it wet. *laugh* Road closings, backed-up sewers, etc. Fun stuff. Sophie's running around going "it's trying to be a river!"

Fun in the Rolling Meadows/ Salt Creek area. I can't believe they opened all of the schools today. I guess the buildings were ok, but when we went past on Saturday, jungle gyms were under water. On our street the water was rising, and we knew the capacity was maxed out. Fortunately it didn't go over the curb where we were in the middle of the block, and we didn't get that much rain on Sunday (well we got quite a bit but the drainage managed to keep up). We haven't peeked into our crawlspace yet, although we are very happy it is only a crawlspace at this point.

Um...nothing unusual in Evanton. That I have noticed anyway. I should check my storage locker.

You are close enough to Lake Michigan [Smile]

Once they opened the floodgates on the Chicago River, and sent all of that water out to the lake, things got a lot better for a lot of areas. The areas that don't drain that direction were much worse. And some places either way it didn't matter.

It is amazing to me how much better things are weather-wise closer to the lake. Logical, but still amazing. It contributes to my sense that the universe is on my side.
