Hmmm. With Harry Potter 6 moved to next summer, James Bond 22 probably would be the best bet for the Star Trek trailer.

After almost a year of watching grimy welders sweat, hopefully they'll have some more...enticing footage. [Wink]

Going by 'Mission Impossible 3', it's pretty clear that Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman are not very talented writers. Ditto J.J Abrams as a director. Maybe the best that can come out of this is that it'll jump-start another tv series or something which they'll hopefully have nothing to do with.

I'm actually ok with Quinto as Spock, the actor playing Kirk doesn't really fit in to me though.

But then, this kind of aproach might actually make sense from a storytelling point of view. So much of this film is going to be weird to people like me who grew up with the original show.
Determinedly breaking the ice with a huge shock might be the only way to make smaller shocks (Kirk with blue eyes!!!1! OMG) less of an issue.
Maybe.

I grew up with the original show, and it never let a silly thing like previously established continuity get in the way of the current episode's story. [Wink]

I'm not knocking series that do have strong, even ironclad continuity. Perish the thought! But Star Trek has always had a softer, more malleable setting. That was part of the fun.

I was always fascinated by episodes in which a character traveled back in time, contacting someone in the past who then never mentions the fact that they've met through the rest of the show until that episode airs, at which point their secret is revealed. There was a Voyager episode where this happened to Janeway and Seven, and I think there were a few other cases.

On a side note, CBS on YouTube has old TOS episodes. I saw "City on the Edge of Forever" yesterday; amazing how that one still holds up after so many years.

Some more details, this time on the prequel to the prequel...*....yeah.

From the sound of things, the so-called "change to canon" early on in the first act of the film will be the result of the lead villain's meddling. One supposes that's why Nimoy will turn up at some point...it's a classic Trek plot, helping the timeline get back to normal.

("Yesterday's Enterprise" is mentioned in the EW spread as an influence on the movie. Make of that what you will.)
