Hey everyone, I'm trying to get a few new book ideas so here's my question: What are one or two books you think everyone should read before they die?
I'll start us out with George Orwell's 1984.

It doesn't matter if they read it, I thought it was a good zing.

I'm honestly curious because my dad was mildly dismissive of it until I convinced him to read it, after which he was much impressed by the book and recommended it to all his friends.

Hey, LukeP. I'd recommend Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. One man looks for meaning in his life. I always found it very sweet and uplifting.
Fahrenheit 451 had a pretty major impact on me growing up. The more I see people attached to their phones unwilling to know anything deeper than the new season's American Idol stats, the more I feel like Montag.
It's funny, as many books as I love to go back and reread, there aren't a lot that I would consider essential. Those two and the Bible are pretty much it for me.

In a "movies to watch" thread, I posted Cry, The Beloved Country, so I'll be very creative here and say:
Cry, The Beloved Country. (Alan Paton)

Having just finished who knows what numbered reread of Fahrenheit 451, I have to agree. Besides that, I'll add Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis.

I love that book! It's so tragic. He did an excellent job with the myth in that story. I like it so much my AIM handle is Istrasorchid.
Another book to read before you die? Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand.
