It's fine. Kids need to be more durable. There's nothing wrong with a little rash. When I was a kid, everything we put on our faces resulted in swelling.

Since the problem with the paints was apparently a significant amount of microbial contamination, perhaps the purchase could be recouped by considering them science experiment kits. Fun With Microbiology!

Yikes.
Conversely, we have the Klutz books Face Painting set, and it's thus far been safe, fun, and lasted through multiple applications (including a birthday party with several guests.)
Score one more against the safety of the "cheap crap from China" market, I guess.
