Was this effective immediately upon the signing of the healthcare reform bill, or is this set to happen at some specific date later this year?

Never mind, I found it. October, apparently.

New question, though. Come October, will children previously disqualified (say, in June of this year when she turns 19, thus losing coverage based on her father's current insurance policy) be able to be reclaimed through their parents' insurance?

I believe it's effective at the beginning of the company's plan year after October. So if your company runs on a January plan year, it's not effective till January.

Ah, thanks. Okay, so amend my new question with this deadline. After the company's effective date, can the dependent under 26 be denied coverage in this situation?

Some states (like Connecticut) already had this stipulation.

Yeah, Georgia's not on the ball there. We do have PeachCare, which is better than many states, but that doesn't apply in this case.

From what I've read, a lot of companies already have plans in place to offer bridge coverage if their ages would normally get them booted off the plan before October when this kicks in. I'd check with your provider.

If they don't provide for something specifically in the interim period, I'd imagine you could get the child signed up again in October, but I'd be surprised if some sort of bridge coverage wasn't available in some way, shape, or form.

Yeah, that's my situation, which means I could be covered for about one month before my 26th birthday. Awesome.

Unfortunately, Tricare (military insurance) wasn't covered under this bill. I still lose my insurance when I turn 23 next year, even though I won't have graduated yet. Yuck.

My mom told me that my brother will be eligible for another 2 years of insurance, come next year's open enrollment for her plan (he aged out 2 years ago.)
