That's the third time I saw someone say something like that related to this story. Is there some kind of myth that movie-business people always die in threes or something? Can someone explain this to me?

Yes, that seems a pretty persistent belief.

A story about it: http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2010/06/01/celebrity_deaths_threes

I'm not sure I understand what the world view of people who invoke the myth is. Do they think that God is killing them three at a time? That there's some sort of celebrity killing rule of the universe that must be invoked? Are they just having fun with pattern finding and know that its not real?
