I heard a rumor that the Maccabeats are coming to Brandeis. Is this true? I would love to meet you in RL.

Their website says:

Concert
March 15
The Brandeis School
Lawrence, NY

Nothing there about the previously-rumored appearance in L.A., though. [Frown]

Brandeis, which is an elementary school in Lawrence, canceled their performance.

Rivka, I and the Maccabeats will be coming to LA march 5th. Mayim Bialik (Blossom and Amy Farrah Fowler from Big Bang theory) said that she will be coming to see us!

Btw, we did just do a concert for NCSY in Boston

I know who Mayim Bialik is. She was a freshman in the chem department at UCLA when I was a senior. I used to see her around Young Hall. We also have some mutual friends, so every 5 years or so I run into her at a bris or bar mitzvah.

Plus every few months I read her blog. [Wink]

March 5 is a Shabbos, no? And havdallah's not until after 7. Is this a public concert? Because I have not seen fliers posted anywhere around town . . .

I was a tad confused. But I just figured my geographic impairment was showing.

We are performing at Shul on shabbos, as well as a concert on Sunday, and at YICC's shul dinner Sunday night. Actually I'm not sure if the concert is Sat night or Sunday...

It will be posted on facebook once the details are finalized, but shabbos and the YICC dinner are for sure. It's part of YU's tour of LA that weekend.

@ shul = @ YICC? That's not too bad a walk . . .

Too bad I imagine y'all are already booked for Shabbos lunch.

Yea, got confirmation. YICC and Beth Jacob on shabbos.

The concert is on Sunday at Yavneh. We're trying to get them to put tickets online but for now, you can call 323 931 5808.

Beth Jacob is closer. Cool.

And I have Yavneh's office number. [Wink]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Aha! The most recent Yavneh newsletter has some info. (But the same office number.) The office line just gave me voicemail. [Razz]

Bah.

Have fun in LA

Just came back from my erev Shabbos shopping.

Tissues, mushrooms, celery, carrots, chickens, challahs, Maccabeats tickets, soup bones, split peas, lentils . . .

[Big Grin]

(I forgot to look around to see if Mayim Bialik was there or not. But then again, we weren't there to see her.)

Ooh, I'm starting to wonder if we'll see a Maccabeats piece soon for Purim or Passover [Smile]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I'm not certain, but I think there may have been a hint dropped about something coming soon at today's concert.

Posted by Armoth (Member # 4752) on :

[Big Grin] Blossom / Amy Farrah Fowler was at shul on Fri night! It was awesome, we were star-struck.

I was JUST as star-struck when I met rivka IRL at the concert on Sunday!!!

And yes...stay tuned...

Well, Mayim and I do both have bachelors in chemistry from UCLA, so I understand why meeting each of us would be equally impressive. [Wink]

Well, she mentioned you in her talk.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Cool!

Tribal Update did a parody of Candlelight this week.

(Edit: this one is just the parody.)

(Edit again: if you know Hebrew, the Hebrew lyrics are way better than the English subtitles; they were more concerned with getting the rhymes than doing a straight translation, like when they did We Con the World.)
