By this of course I don't mean at the same time. See, here's the thing. I just got my hands on a hardback copy of Treason, which is possibly my favorite OSC book, and I wanted to get it signed. Unfortunately, it's already been signed, to someone named Gary. The book itself was a gift, but I don't know if it was known that the book was signed beforehand or not. I'm going to the signing in Cincinnati next week and I'd like to get this one signed in addition to Crystal City, but I fear OSC may be reluctant to sign, as he's already signed it once (or at the very least, think I'm very odd, which may well be true, but OSC doesn't need to know that). Is this an issue anyone here has ever come across? [Dont Know]

I think the nice man will sign it anyway. Just in case, though, bring another book(s) that you want him to sign.

(BTW, I have NOT ran into a situation like thus)

It is precisely for this reason that, usually when I order books from Hatrack(which I don't do nearly as often as I would like) I don't get them signed unless they are for someone else. I see the signing as a memento of actually meeting the man.

I'm sure he would sign the book to you, though. What would be rather funny is if he remembered signing it the last time, though I doubt he would.

I would guess that OSC will find it amusing. He may ask if you're sure you're not Gary -- or perhaps if you have multiple personalities. [Wink]

I don't get it. You give the books to others so they have a memento (A reminder of the past; a keepsake) of an event that never occurred?

Frisco, I think Amka is assuming that just because it's HER preference to only have books signed in person, it may not be the giftee's preference. [Smile]

My family, for who I usually get the books, aren't the type to go to signings. I don't go to signings usually myself. Only a couple of people when I was younger. As an adult, I've only been to OSC signings. At this point, an OSC signing is more of an excuse for me to say hi to him, hear his lectures, and maybe ask a couple of questions (for philoticweb). Kind of fun to see the sayings he puts in books, too.

That I get the books personalized to my family by the author simply shows a little extra effort in giving the gift.
