When was the last time OSC posted anything on here in a thread? I'm not being malicious, I'm truly just curious. I looked through the first few pages, and unless I was perusing too carelessly, the last thread of OSC's I saw was on February 27, 2002. I am sorry if I'm wrong, but I just wondered if he still posted on here.

Once in a great while. When he has something to say or some time to kill. He has two screen names, too, so. . . [Razz]

Don't forget to check out the Books, Films, Food and American Culture side. Welcome to Hatrack. [Smile]

I thought his other screen name was The Supreme Oppressor! It has a nice dramatic flare.

Last post as far as I can tell was in April. I think he was finishing up Crystal City.

Wait till you get an e-mail from him. That's the day you feel like you are really [Cool] . Well, either that or [Angst] . Yeah, usually it's the latter, but still. I have keep the e-mail he sent me. Hey, I've only had it for a year, but you know, I'll never be able to get rid of this computer, now. And if that isn't a sign of a [Hail] , I don't know what it. It was only 23 words, too! Not that I was counting or anything. . . [Blushing]

Woa..OSC really sends emails to you? Does he send them to everyone eventually? That's really cool. I don't think that I would delete it either. It's like an ancient chinese recipe or something, but not chinese, or a recipe...that's really cool. I think that if OSC sent me an email, I would call all of my friends who read OSC books and then I would cry with joy!! [Party]

He doesn't send E-mails to EVERYONE. [Smile] But he has been known to comment on posts through E-mail, and -- as far as I know -- replies to almost all the E-mail sent to him.

Yeah, I sent him an e-mail first. He was merely replying to it. I just happened to notice an error in a website address and let him know. It wasn't an earth shattering e-mail from him. Just "Thanks, I'll change it."

[Grumble]

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I still have an e-mail from OSC and you don't, so there. [Razz]

Kayla,

Have you not printed it out, matted and framed it and displayed it on the wall above your desk??? I would, if I had one.

Okay, I'll be on the lookout for grammatical errors and flubs... [Angst] Where are they? Where are they? I'm joking, I'm not that pathetic. Well, you never can be sure...hmmm...*a moment for self reflection* No, I'm sure that I'm at least 30% normal. But what is normal besides a setting on your washer? (I know, it's treacherously overused). [Smile]

I did carry a printed copy of an e-mail around with me for a few days at one point.... The really exciting thing was that he IMed me once. Unfortunately I was away from the computer at the time, and when I returned an hour or so later he was gone. Still, it was something.

Scott went through a posting explosion one night last July (2002), but most of the threads on which he posted have since been deleted. Older threads on this side might still show some of his posts, but they're usually questions about his books (he asks about previous ones so he doesn't contradict himself when writing sequels).

If you do want to contact him directly, the recommended method is this page, and select "Questions For and About OSC" for the topic.

It gets cooler, actually. [Smile] A number of Hatrack regulars -- the OLD Hatrack, on AOL -- had bit parts in Alvin Journeyman, and Papa Moose here is a major character in Crystal City (as mentioned above).

(Moose officially got the part by winning a contest, but I think everybody agrees that, well, he just DESERVED it anyway. *grin*)

Good heavens! Groupies! Who'd've thought? [Smile] I'm honored, blacwolve, that you hold me in such high esteem. I doubt you're disqualified from being an OSC groupie, though -- in fact, since I am already an OSC groupie, I think you become one automatically by the transitive property. Can anyone back me on that one?

Wieczorek, it is my screenname that's in Crystal City, by OSC's choice. When I won the trivia contest, he asked me whether I wanted my screenname or my real name to be used in an upcoming book; I said he should choose, and he said he'd do both (and mentioned at the time that "Papa Moose" sounded like it should be the name of a character in the Alvin series). So in addition to Papa Moose being in Crystal City, my real name will ostensibly be used for a character in yet another story (probably back to being a bit part, though, and I'm all good with that, too).

Ah, I understand. I just ordered The Seventh Son today, though, and it's the first time I've read any Alvin book, so I don't know what Crystal City is about, but I'll find out soon enough [Smile]

Also, I agree about the trans. prop. Too many proofs in geometry last year. If you're connected to OSC, and blacwolve is connected to you, then OSC and blacwolve are connected. Darn, now I'm thinking about school again. [Grumble] However, this is a good thing!! Thanx, papa moose. [Big Grin]

Because I was a big goober and forgot to continue bumping the thread into the next millenium, OSC's comments about me being the most cogent, intelligent, something something poster on Hatrack is forever lost. [Cry]

You'd think with all my experience posturing I would be better at self-promotion and actually remember to stinking bump that thread.

wieszorek...read the other 5 Alvin Maker books before you dive into Crystal City (there are 5, right??) When reading these weekly teasers from CC, I've realized how much I've forgotten from the previous books, including characters and plot lines. I highly recommend reading the others so you'll enjoy Crystal City. The first three are absolute masterpieces in my opinion.

Thanks, Narnia. That's one of the things that I hate about not figuring out about an author's existence until they have loads of books published. I just found out about OSC three months ago and I've only read 1-7 Ender books and First Meetings. It's going to take a while to catch up!! Plus, I just started school again today, so that's another thing to keep my reading the OSC books at a slow pace [Mad] I wish I had reading for every bell so that I could race through the books I want to read. [Big Grin] Omg, something so upsetting happened. On Amazon, I ordered this copy of Maps in a Mirror, and the description said, "Like new - but used - Maps in a Mirror book copy." When I got it, it is an audio cassette tape!! I paid for nothing!?!? Well, I guess I can listen to it, but I read much faster than I think it might read the book, and it's more enjoyable to read to yourself.

I read more in school than I ever do on vacations. Of course, I have this unfortunate habit of arguing with teachers and making myself very unpopular if I don't have someting to distract me, and that's why. But still, you can get lots of reading done in school if you don't mind not paying attention.

I don't start until tomorrow, but I don't think I'm going to have much time at all for reading (except for about 7 minutes before I fall asleep) because I have soccer 5-7 days a week and I don't know if it's first or second semester yet, but I'm taking a Shakespeare class. Hopefully I'll have a better teacher than last year because the one I had last year was an idiot. Oh well, I better enjoy my last day at home. I'm rereading the EG series so I guess I'd better get back to it.

I don't know why some schools start in the middle of the week, but I like the idea of it. My second day of school today. I have block scheduling at my school, so I have A and B day, 4 classes a day, different classes. On B day, I have to carry around my binder, 3 textbooks, and four 2 inch hard binders. It's crazy!! You'd think teachers would get together and prepare this or let you leave materials in their room. Grrrr... [Mad] ... but, nonetheless, I'll be okay. [Big Grin] blacwolve, I dunno about you, but I like paying attention in class. Well, wrong words. I don't like it, but I choose to do it. Hehe [Razz] ... I get to read 2 books a quarter, and anything else is extra credit. I wonder what my teacher would say if the only books I read were ones by OSC??? [Big Grin] I love those books!!!

You actually get credit for outside reading? I can only do that if I take it as an extra course. Oh well.

It is nice starting in the middle of the week because I have two days of school, a three day week-end, and then four days of school next week. But in CT the reason a lot of schools start in August is something called the CMT that kids have to take in grades 4, 6, and 8. I learned that yesterday (I knew we got a newspaper for SOMETHING.)

We have something like the CMT in my state. It's the OGT. A graduation test. My grade is the first one that gets to take it. The first people ever to take an OGT, sounds kinda scary...Morgaine, what did you do? Cut the middle of the book out with a knife?? I'm joking. [Big Grin] Hmmm...that is a good idea...I've ordered some OSC books that I don't have over Amazon.com and they still haven't come!! It's been...about 4 or 5 days and they were supposed to come "within 24 hours", but you know how online shopping communities work. It's a disgrace to the online shopping community members!! [ROFL]

I think CT just has a lot of useless tests because the ones we need to graduate are CAPT and are taken in 10th grade. Though I don't need it to graduate because that started the year after me. I prefer to call them CrAPT tests or Crappy and Pointless Tests.

Julie, that's funny. We call OGT Ostentatious Garbage (or Ostentatious Garbage Tests). Hmmm, Morgaine, that's not a bad idea. [Big Grin] In Biology I, we don't do much but read. Not that the teacher would know the difference. [Wink] Max, I had to start Monday, too. Pretty terrible. I school has this new "if you're late to class you get to stay after for a little party with the teachers that we stupid administraots prefer to call detention" policy. I've only been through 4 days of it, and I already hate it. Oh, we have to tuck in ALL of our shirts, girl or boy. What about the shirts we girls wear (I don't know if you're a male or female) that won't tuck in?? So idiotic!! Blacwolve, my English teacher's pretty weird, too. Just today, we had to write everything that we knew about Snoop Dogg. That was an essay assignment?? Weird... English will DEFINETLY be a good class to weird OSC during...I'll get to finish about 50 books during the school year and she'll never know how... [Wink] I like the sound of that...

My English class last year was pure BS. What did we do? Twice we watched movies INSTEAD of reading the book because we "didn't have time." (How do you not have time for the first assignment of the year???) When we read Huck Finn we only read the first 200 pages (for reasons that changed daily). Oh, and two of the poems and two of the short stories we read were one I had read in English class in eighth grade (this was tenth grade English). At least now I'm a junior and I can pick my English classes. I'm taking Shakespeare now and my teacher seems really cool. Finally something useful.

All throughout my high school, they give you required classes you must take. But my a LOT of my friends (about 50) and I are two years ahead b/c my middle school offered advanced classes. That's the only reason why I'm not stuck taking all 8th grade courses. Pretty stupid if you ask me. And my school only offers 2 languages. What about yours? I knows of some schools that offer 5 or more. So I take Spanish and study others independently at home. The only options we have for English each year are: English 9, English 10, English 11, and English 12. So, it's pretty self explanatory. My teacher assigned EG over the summer and on the first day she said that she didn't enjoy it at all. That tells you right from the start that there's a problem [Wink]

Our school offers Five languages [Taunt] . I'm in AP Literature and Composition this year. So far, all we've done has been reed and discuss one really kooky article. It was written by a physcologist and I'm seriously scared because people's minds are being put in this guy's hands. What I like to do in English is read all the other stories in the literature book. Most of them are the kind of good literature that you never really want to read, but you really need to know. Also, how is a teacher going to yell at you for reading the literature book?

Oh, I just starting taking government (It's required for seniors) and required classes rarely have people who are on the top rungs of the academic ladder in them. SO therefore after listening to a few very painful moments of class discussion, in which the teacher patiently tried to explain to people that, yes, the government does do things [Roll Eyes] ; Ipulled out The Chosen and began reading while paying attention to the class with half an ear. I was randomly making coments like, "just because rights aren't legal protected, doesn't mean they aren't rights," and other comments in that line. After class my teacher commented to myself and another guy that we were the ones who were going to make this class semi- interesting, exciting. The thing is, the teacher would have had to be blind to not know I was reading. [Dont Know]

I realize I should be ashamed of myself [Embarrassed] . I've just learned so much this way, it's hard to be.

The only stories in my literature book are agitating five page stories that I would bet 5th graders would love to read. It's a shame. You'd think that after years in school you'd get a better deal. Luckily we're learning something interesting in my history class. My teacher, however, seems to think that we're younger than we are - we played "memory" to study for our test on the events of the 15th century world. Unfortunately, I can't do anything other than the futile tasks we're assigned to in class b/c we have 2 teachers in each one - student teachers. You know how they stand next to each person every once in a while and breathe down your neck? [Angst] It's kinda scary. And I still haven't gotten the OSC books I ordered through amazon.com. [Mad]

My school offers three languages (Span, French, and Latin). In 9th and 10th grade you have to take English 9 and 10 (duh) but after that the only requirements are that you need a total of 4 years of English and you must have at least one semester each in both a writing class and a literature class. Basically that means you have to take expository writing because it's a pre-req. for any other writing class (ok, the only two other writing classes). So I'm taking that and Shakespeare this year. I'm also taking Speech Communication since I had an open spot in my schedual and I think that means I only need a half year of English next year.

I know what you mean about reading really simple stories. I believe I posted that already though. My friend made up a song about how boring and stupid my English class was last year.

One of my friends is going to Cinci. Christian. She told me that they offer Spanish, French, German, Latin and some other one - some oriental language, I think. I might be mistaken about that last one... I think my school needs serious help, they offer barely anything and so we're forced to take some pretty stupid courses. They don't even offer a Biology II course. We can take Biology I, but from there, you're pretty much on your own.
