I've observed this waaaay too many times on the writer's forums I've browsed, lurked, or posted to (?)

You write "definately" and you toss a coin in the jar.

got a fav pet-peeve of grammatical/spelling atrocities? add your own jar and label it clearly.

someone doing a slideshow presentation used "where" in place of "were". I figured it was a typo, until i saw it again. in fact, through the entire presentation, not once was "were" spelled correctly.

Using "y'all" in the first place, AND THEN spelling it "ya'll". It's YOU ALL, people. [Wall Bash]

I am so bad at spelling and grammer that I could not find a jar big enough to hold all the coins that I would be required to toss in.

I rely on spell check and the dictionary, but there are words that I can't even begin to spell and therefore cannot look up or get spell check to find the word I want.

Paroxysm was a recent challenge; it took me three days to finally figure it out. Thankfully I found it in something I was reading.

Also, don't let the homonyms bite. [Big Grin]

As an instructor at the local 2-year college, I witnessed a colleague make beautiful power point presentations with one glaring mistake - from was usually spelled form.

I live in Tucson, but I'm just reading what people write. I'm originally from Georgia though...those people really know how to use a colloquialism.

Aren't those the people that preface every thing with "Why bless her heart", then proceed to slam whoever they just blessed.

EXACTLY! I think Southern Belles are always afraid that they'll offend someone so they try to be nice about everything. But then one has to wonder, why don't they (we) just avoid malicious gossip in the first place?
