You say: "Technology isnīt important."
But it is.
Place:Earth
Year: 22-25. century

Technology: Space ships,Desintegrated weapons, voice (or how that write) and email?

Why? Communication technology has 2 century evolution. They have videoconferences, mobil-telephone in watch and they use emails..
Is this OK?

Basic world government:
1)Every member of government must join with other members in few seconds everytime and everywhere.
2)Planet canīt direct only one man (He donīt make? everything!- every human must sleep)
Hegemon can direct only government, which direct world as he.
3)Only main topic can resolve hegemon! (Destroy the queen of beehive or not???)

I thought it was the latter part of the 21st century, but that may just be what Fresco Pictures is using. 22-25 century sounds better to me, though.

They should use video-telephone and his recorder..
We will use this in 2015 or 2025, sms leave us in 2020-2030 and email probably 20 year later.
If rate of new technology stay on today rate, then in 2098 or some year later (1-200) we will use mobil telephone in our brains with emotion transmission. [Party]

What is SMS?

Also, I think that Card is deliberately trying to stay on what I have heard called a "safe-tech" path that avoids things like cybernetics and genetic engineering as much as possible. Usually, this is done to keep humanity recognizable and easy to understand, though it can also be the result of a poor vision of technological advancement or of religious scruples.

I think that using the idea of future technology is okay. OSC did it with the ansible and the mind game - a game that fits each player uniquely. But to use the ansible in his books is okay b/c it's not too unrealistic. The things that you speak of (communicating through brain chips that sense emotion fluctuations, etc.) are far from being developed and since we don't live with them in our daily lives, they are very, very foreign to us. I think that OSC keeps his books interesting by not getting to futuristic. Also, these advancements in technology would make problem-solving in the books too easy and fast. The problem needs to remain for a while so that the book is interesting to read. If OSC used such technology, many of the Ender and Shadow books would be a fraction of the size they are now because the problems would be solved in a portion of the time.

Starman's right. There's no way some things would remain so primitive

does anything think, though, that if OSC put such technology in his books that it would be not so interesting? Think about it, if this technology were exercised in OSC's sequels, the solutions to problems would be extremely easy to find. One interesting part of OSC's Ender and Shadow series' novels is the problem solving. If every time that something came up and posed a problem Bean might say, "Oops, can't let that happen!" and fix it in an instant. I think that creating such technology in the books would not be a good idea for the reason that the books' sizes would be small in comparison to the current sizes (because the problem's would be solved so quickly). What does anyone else believe?

Well, if the entire world was focused on destroying the buggers, they would probably put everyone onto war technology. And they have the ansible, the ultimate in communication, the Dr. Device, intersteller travel, and some less warlike tech such as desks and battle school itself. Perhaps the war effort slowed down other technological advances for a few hundred years.

Plus those cool helicopter-jets from Shadow of the Hegemon. At least I think thats what they used when they get Petra out.

Shep, more like a few thousand years - that's a joke. [Big Grin] (May I ask where you got your sn at?) I understand and you are correct about Petra's rescue. But do you mean that with the war in EG, the I.F. put everyone on earth onto war tech? I find that difficult to imagine, but it sounds interesting - I'd like to hear more about your thought on that.
Remember, however, that no one but people involved in battle school (a maybe a few families and Valentine) and a few in the I.F. know about the ansible, the Little Doctor, or battle school desks. People on earth know of the battle school, but not things that go on in it. So if you look at it that way, it brings a new light on the subject. I hadn't thought of it this way before, but with making my own conclusions, I agree with starman a bit more than I did when I first read his post. Ah, see? We can learn things from just listening to others!!
Welcome to hatrack, Shep. It's the best here.

Thanks for the welcome, wieczorek. I got my sn actually from Half-life opposing forces, corporal Adrian Shepard. Maybe not the greatest game, though I speant hours playing it a few years ago, and loved the idea. [Cool] Anyway, if the hegemon cant be bothered with a major problem like birth control, limiting the size of families to only two children, how much more effort would he spend on a little thing like better email or even more efficent or deadlier land technology such as tanks and weapons, or cars, when the battle is going to be fought in space? Those ships seem to cost something awful, too. I admit that even with all those factors, there should be more technology, but it would take something out of the story if there was so much more tech, when its really just about the children in battle school. Still, there are the cars with no driver, the monitors, the regular school desks, Eros, and probably a few more I cant think of. Its just enough future tech scattered about to keep you reminded that its not the 20th century.

As far as the video phones go.... I HIGHLY doubt those will be in use in 2015-2025... The technology has literally been with us since the 60's but no one wants that... (the first one ever was demonstrated in i believe '63 or '65... can't remember the exact year) People have no need or desire for that. If ANYTHING they will continue with normal video conferencing that is used in business right now.

As far as brain telephones.....well, dream on... Don't count on that one ever happening. Reading your mind for telephone = brain can be read = (hacker + brain = REALLY BAD!!!) not to mention they cant even imagine how the brain works yet. They study certain chemical impulses and imply things from that, but that's about it. Reading a convorsation out of someones mind is a downright rediculous notion. They said in the 60's that by the year 2000, every teenager would be driving around in a hovercraft... We progressed faster, and slower, than that. but in a completely different direction. The future is not what anyone plans.

to Starman: "Shep" je přezdívat komu pokud jde o "Shepard". "Sheep" je ovce.

I've never heard of that game before, Shep. I seem to have a closed-mind today - I wasn't thinking about all of the technology such as you mentioned in your last post. Those are some important inventions, too. [Blushing] I'm so embarrassed. Hehe. [Big Grin]

Electron, what is that from? You've arroused my suspicions. [Confused]

It's time about for another religious ceremony.
Hail the Almighty OSC [Hail] !!
I bow down to thee!! What would I have becometh without thou? Hail the Almighty OSC [Hail] !!

[Laugh] I can just imagine you saying that (I don't mean specifically you , because I don't even know what you look like, but I mean that when I read it, I just envisioned someone saying it and it looked really funny!!) Heehehehe!!!! Hooohohoo-hooohoooooo!!!! Hahehehehaaaahaha!!!!
Woa, I really need some sleep. I think that most of my posts for the past 2 days have been kind of weird...but I'll gladly claim them!! [Big Grin] My lack of normality wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that I go to bed at 12 and wake up at 4!! [Mad] [Grumble] Stupid teachers... [Wall Bash]

It is true.. Hacker+brain is very bad.
Today are only hypnotists. But ve must have some antiviruses today too. (opposite advertising, poblicity, plug..)
If we hava that technology, we probably have better defence, but open entry. (today only eyes, ears and nose)
It want long study, not as monitors (which destroy eyes and make /shake/)
With this technology we gain telephaty.
