I was just realizing that Ender's Game, like the Matrix, A.I., Edward Scissorhands, and Conspiracy Theory, are of the Pinnochio variety. A created creature searching for his meaning.

I think that from the time we get the "I didn't ask to be born" joke, we all go through this. But it's a little more obvious for some than others. Is this a new symptom of a society where contraception and family planning are available or have people always felt this way?

People have always felt this way. It is a symptom of the search for identity and meaning in life. Contraceptives have almost always been available in one form or another, however this common feeling has not altered.

I guess Alvin Maker, being the seventh son of a seventh son, is like this also. Especially with his brother being killed in the unmaker's attempt to prevent his power.

So is the Pinnochio story of necessity an Event story? Or is it a character story? Anyone know any good Pinnochio stories about girls? (besides "Dark Angel")

I think a lot of girls don't feel quite the same about it. I mean, one factoid says that 95% of couples want a boy for their first child. So that means a large proportion of girls are a "disappointment". I think Princess Di even had this problem.
