Well, first off, I'd like to officially announce that this is my first post to this forum. I think you guys have some great stuff going here, and I just have to join in myself.
I've been thinking a lot about the ending to the movie. We know this is going to be a cross between "Ender's Game" and "Ender's Shadow," but I have to wonder about the ending to the film. Will the writers go with the ending presented at the conclusion of "Ender's Game," with the finding of the queen and Ender's and Val's relocation? It is a part in the book that seems to not really fit unless you continue reading the series.
If this is going to be a stand-alone movie with no sequels, I was thinking about a possible alteration to the ending. Depending on what the writers want the overall message of the film to be, the ending could take various forms.
I was actually considering ditching the Speaker for the Dead plotline.
Now, before I get stoned for blasphemy, let me explain. In a contained film, the Speaker addition will not make a whole lot of sense, and will leave the film somewhat open-ended (which could be intentional). But I was thinking of bringing back the original ending Mr. Card had when he first wrote the short story.
For those of you who have read it (for those of you who have not, DO!) you'll remember that he ended the short story with a scene in a park - no mention of the hive queen or Ender or Valentine anywhere. And that ending had a certain punch, something that I think might come across nicely in film.
Anyway, I was wondering what everyone else thought about this? I have also posted this at the Philotic Web's forum, so you can look there for additional ideas.

As for the ending... could work. I have a fair amount of confidence in the writers' ability to get it right (keeping in mind that right for the movie and right for the book can be two different things).

I think that even with the Speaker ending Ender's Game can stand alone. It didn't seem out of place when I read it, and that was before I knew there were other books.

As there's no stated intention to make Speaker into a movie, and as they've said they're combining Bean's story with Ender's story for the film, I think they ALREADY plan to leave off the SftD coda.

So, all right, if they're not going to go with the Speaker ending, what do you think they should do? Let's have some people's opinions on how the movie should end! What would make the biggest punch?

I think they should have Ender destroy the buggers, that last idea sounded good. Leave it open for...
Mini-series/TV show of Ender's journeys across the universe! Not a movie though, it's just not that flashy. People wouldn't really pay to see it (unless they've read the books).
I don't know, just an idea.

Well, I'm assuming that they'll want to keep the story focused around Ender. However, anything is possible with the melding of Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. It will be interesting to see how they combine these two books and split the focus of the movie equally on two characters.

Well what they should do is make the movie 4 hours long like the Lord of the Rings movie and then tell both the stories of bean and ender similtaneous. That would be cool.
