Check out the inobtrusive little banner on the top of the page. Signed books marked down! Woo hoo!

Have to go home and see which copies need better, less-worn versions to pretend to justify my purchase. Just ordered "Shadow Puppets," which doesn't quite make up for not getting a Florida book signing stop the last few years. Then again, I live here and Icarus would complain that I hadn't made a Florida appearance either, so...

Who am I kidding. Time to go empty out the PayPal account again.

This is inexpensive enough that I can get a copy of First Meetings as a gift for one of my students. Ordered it yesterday. [Smile]

I wish we knew what B&N and Borders will sell the remainders for ... I think we're right in line with their pricing. But that's why we added the signature, hoping that the added value would make up any difference. IF you think of it as value.

Just one more entry in our ever-growing search for ways to make the website pay for itself! ...

So you're not only getting cheap signed books, you're helping support Hatrack ...

Shadow Puppets, First Meetings, and The Crystal City were on the 80% off rack at MediaPlay. The Crystal City is all sold out but they still had more than a dozen of Shadow Puppets and First Meetings.

With additional charges added in, I got The Crystal City for under eleven dollars in the Hatrack store. Barnes and Noble, even with 10%Member discount and the additional 30% off they were offering at my local store a few days ago, is still more expensive--about fourteen dollars.

I'd call what I got a good bargain, even without signature and supporting the site as benefits.

This may be a stupid question, but why are these books in particular all selling for so much less now?

They're not exactly new releases. They're all at least a few years old. That's why the hardcovers sell for less now.

I think they call them remainders. The Shadow Puppets paperback is already available and I assume The Crystal City paperback will be out soon. This is always a good time to buy a first edition hardcover if you want an extra copy.

Argh my self-restraint is so bad! I'm so very poor at the moment but I had to buy First Meetings, (and a couple book plates for good measure).

Thank goodness I already have the other books that're for sale or I'd have to go without food for a few days!

Crystal City has been out in paperback for a while. I just wondered if them being in paperback was all there is to it, because there are plenty of hardcover books at the Border's near me that have also been out in paperback for a while, and they don't sell for less.

They're probably so cheap because Mr. Card thoughtlessly scribbled his name in them. Who's going to pay full price for a book that someone wrote in? [Big Grin] [Razz]

Orson, if I order a copy of First Meetings, will you scribble something negative about Star Trek in them?
