I've always wondered if Isaiah 54:16 was some inspiration for the Alvin Maker series (apart from the life of Joseph Smith, of course)? This is the verse in question: "Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy." The 'smith' equals Alvin? The 'waster' equals the Unmaker?

Hmmm. The Homecoming series is in Isaiah too:
quote:Isaiah 2:20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made [each one] for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
2:21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

I've read Isaiah, several times, but believe me, NEITHER of these scriptures was any part of my conscious plans.
At the same time, I love both quotes and wish I had put them somewhere in the books. Thanks for finding them!
