Mr Card,

I've now listened to a couple of the Audio Renaissance audiobooks from the Ender series and they are fantastic. I have a subscription to Audible.com and I intend to get all the Ender books in audiobook for evetually. However, the Ender's Shadow audiobook over there isn't Audio Renaissance and according to the reviews is very poor quality. I was just wondering if the same group has or is planning on doing Ender's Shadow? I'd really love to have it.

As an aside, I was curious if you could explain how authors get paid for audiobooks in general and Audible.com in specific. You've mentioned the royalties for paperback and hardcover before, is it simply like that for normal audiobooks? And what about Audible.. I mean, for $22/mo I get two books that may cost me $50 a piece at Amazon so how do you get paid?

Thanks!

Doing some more digging it looks like they do indeed have a new version coming out, in August. Yay

If you'd be willing to give me some insight into the economics of the audiobook industry, however, I would still appreciate that information.

Trust me, I get paid. Standard royalties, as a percentage of what the buyer pays.

The secret is not the publisher per se - it's the producer. And the producer of all my books for the past couple of years and on into the future is Stefan Rudnicki (who read the new unabridged Lost Boys). Whether he reads himself or selects and record other readers, he does a brilliant job of bringing my work to life aurally.

And, as much as possible, my voice appears somewhere in every book - either in an ad-libbed commentary, a reading of my foreword or afterword, or as a reader of one of the parts (and you get to play "which one is OSC?").

I just finished Shadow of the Giant last night...I didn't catch you in there. Were you?

I just got into audiobooks a few months ago and I must say, your's have been some of the absolute best I've listened to. Bravo to Mr. Rudnicki! (Of course, your writing doesn't hurt it either [Smile] )

Yeah, you always need to be careful when you buy audiobooks. Personally, I try to avoid abridged versions at all costs.
