when i read it, it keeps sounding like.

I don't know why my brain keeps adding an a sound betwwen the second E and the M.
maybe its from watching all those digimon cartoons.

Wow. I just figured out that [Dont Know] is a guy shrugging. I always thought it was somebody lifting weights and so was confused when somebody used it...Makes sense now.
Sorry for that unnecessary bit of randomness.

He-Ge-Mon. In Hebrew, though, you say "Heg-Mon"

I could always pronounce "hegemon" without a hitch but always had problems with "hegemony" because my debate teachers insisted it was "heh-GEM-uh-nee" when my mind kept saying, "hedguh-MOAN-ee". Drives me crazy. Webster's lists both pronunciations as correct, so I fear I'll never reach a conclusion personally as to its accurate pronunciation.

I use more of a "shz" sound for the G. Or maybe a "zhe" sound is more appropriate. Somewhere between the "J" sound and "Z" anyway.

"HESHZ e mon"

And

"he SHZE mon ee"

/shrug

I don't try to pronounce it in Greek. By analogy with the word hegemony, which is pronounced heh-JEM-uh-nee, I pronounced the new ENGLISH word hegemon HEJ-uh-mon. How the Greeks did it or do it is entirely up to them <grin>.

I always thought it was HEG-uh-mon
(rhymes with "egg 'em on").

And HEG-uh-mony
(like "egg a Mony"--mony being the name from that Tommy James and the Shondelles hit)

Although, he-JEM-uh-nee has quite a ring to it.
