I have been happening to notice the repeated references to seven sons, or being a seventh son all over lately. Which of course sent me to thinking about Alvin Maker.

What is the importance of being a seventh son? I mean I know the setup OSC provides, but is there some other root for this, some legend or tale about seven sons or something of the sort that people keep referencing?

Perhaps I'm just going mad, perhaps not. Sooth my sanity please.

I want to say the seventh son motif is a Welsh (or at least some kind of Celtic) thing, but I can't think of any examples that are making me think of this.
