Hey, this is my first question on here, hopefully its ok.
I was at an OSC signing today in hunington beach and while waiting for OSC to show up the the event to start i started reredaing children of the mind.
And when I came to the part about Miro exploring possible planets, it talked about how there were tons of colony ships being sent out. But that got me remembering Xenocide. At the end of that book, it was said that Jane could only bring the ship outside and back inside if she had a philotic connection with one of the crew members, so either Ender, Peter, Young Valentine or possibly Miro.
Did I miss something important. How are all these other ships with none of these important people onboard being transported outside and back inside?

PS - The signing was awesome, had a great time, and OSC was hilarious. I definitly enjoyed meeting him, and it just made me an even bigger fan.

I think she figured out a way afterwards how to do it once she had enough "practice" so to speak.

I remember something in the book that it wasn't actually necessary - I think the test where they discovered this was mentioned.

Miro went along on the first trip because Jane thought he might have to. By the end of Xenocide, we know he doesn't, because they test it w/ Peter alone.

Actually, moving a ship with just Peter doesn't disprove the theory. As LB Bry said, the idea was that an aiua which Jane had a very close connection to had to be on the ship. That meant Miro, or any of the 3 bodies which shared Ender's aiua.

However, either this was just a thoery and no such condition was ever required, or Jane improved her abilities to the point where it was no longer required. Remember also, initially Jane needed a "ship" for travelers to be inside, but by the end of CotM, she could move Peter, Wang-mu, and the MD device by themselves.

thats actually a really good point neo-dragon, that progression in Jane's ability shows that even if it was a restriction early on, she could have learned to get around it.

Also at when they move the Little Doctor Peter tells Wang Mu that Jane needs to "know the object she moves and she does this by basicly sending her aiua into the Little Doctor. So in thee beging she would need some one she knows intamitly to lead her to the ship at least. Correct?

That's the point - we have one instance for sure where the initial assumed conditions were incorrect, so another one isn't a big surprise.
