In Greensboro, a former employer of mine temporarily owned a large house by a lake (exactly as described in Ender's Game), which had been built by the inventor of Vick's Vap-O-Rub.

Okay, I KNEW it had to have some kind of weird personal/inside joke meaning. Thanks. Like I said, I've been wondering what the heck it meant for over a decade.
In Ender's Game, when Graff takes Ender for his little Earthside vacation (and brings Valentine to talk to him), they arrive at the lake house and Graff says, "This is the house that Medley's Mist-E Rub built." There is no other explanation or mention of Medley's Mist-E Rub, and I've always just wondered what the devil that was all about.
