It is a short story that takes place between Heartfire and Crystal City. It has Alvin and Arthur Stuart in it. It tells of their encounter with "the grinning man" who is a hero of the american frontier. (wont give it away who he is) It also tells the mentioned lesson in Crystal City of building a canoe by hand that Arthur goes thru.

It's about a man...a man who grins.

And really, is that so wrong? Does not a man who grins live under the same sky as you and I? Does he not hurt and breathe and love? Is he not, even though he grins, still a man, with all that this entails?

I say yes. I say we should take this Grinning Man into our hearts, let him into our lives. I hope for a future day when a man is not judged on the wideness of his grin, but rather by the contents of his character. On that day, hopefully not long in coming, we can gather the people, both grinning and non-grinning, and build something...something great. Something that future generations can look upon in gratitude and then they can say without a trace of shame - nay rather with voices filled with pride - "You know, my great-great-great grandfather was a Grinning Man, too."

---

The Yazoo Queens on the other hand, well, those dirty sinners are right out.

Are you quoting "The Grinning Man" there? I haven't read, so I don't know. But it seems to me like you might be.

I'm not sure whether I should feel complimented or insulted by that.

To answer your question, Steve-o, that was just a bit of silliness of my own design.

Dear lady, bringing some sunlight to your day makes the 15 or so seconds I put into that all worthwhile. For just one of your dulcet laughs, I would fain suffer 3 or perchance even, dare I say it, 4 times as much and yet consider myself well recompensed.

Forgive my impertinence, but I wonder if you would be interested in my latest experiments viz the aerodynamical properties of pastries constructed from the cream of coconut and the facial cosmetic effects of same on my manservant Goffery. I gave a small exhibition to the Duchess of New West Northhamptonshire just last week and she assured me that she found it most droll.
