I thought I'd ask where are some of the places you've taken OSC's books to read. Ever take them on a plane and if so where to? Train? Car trip to gradnmas? The zoo? The dining room table?

As for me Ender's Game, Children of the Mind and The Worthing Saga were packed away in my seabag and went round the world in 2005 to such exotic places as Guam, Singapore, Kuwait, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Rhodes and Portugal.

I think they kept my morale up the most.

Best,

Nevyan

I've taken them to NY, NC, Texas, and France, as well as the smallest room in the house a few times. I also bought "Le Strategie d'Ender" in France.

I carry a copy of at least one OSC book with me every time I'm on an airplane.

They work better for poping my ears [Wink]

On family roadtrips we take turns reading, so OSC books have been taken the entire length of I20, almost all of I35, the entire length of I75, CA, LA, OH, IN, Tenn, (and various other states).

I've read on my floatee sitting in the pool and the Yucatan while tanning. (I just wish they'd make a water and oil proof book for all of us sun lovers)

And of course I take my book to family gatherings: It's a great way to avoid those holiday bickerings. *wink*

It's actually a shorter list of "where haven't I taken a book." Never take OSC to church, funerals, and business parties/negotiations-everything else is subjective.)

I've taken Pastwatch to Miami, Florida; Ender's Game to Jamaica; and the entire Shadow series ends up migrating from between my house in the city and my country house in Westhampton. [Smile]

SftD is the only book I had when I was sick in bed for two weeks in Germany. I am now confident that I know that book better than anyone else alive today.

I took everything up through Shadow Puppets when I went into the Peace Corps in Dominica. Relatively speaking, the Ender books took up an impressive percentage of my total suitcase volume. [Smile]

Slightly Embarassing perhaps, but I traveled to Amsterdam after sophomore year in college, ate a space cake and walked around the canals listening to enders game on headphones.

One of my copies of Ender's Game was purchased in Key West. My books have traveled far and wide, at least along the east coast.

We took the first two books of the Homecoming series to Russia... then were desperate to get hold of the rest. We got the folks back home to mail us the next two, then finally picked up the fifth in a science fiction book shop in Helsinki. My spouse was running a fever of 103 at the time, and he exploited my sympathy in order to get to read #5 first. [Smile]

Well, I didn't take the book there, but while on vacation in Australia I took a ferry from Sydney Harbour to Rydalmere, and I sat next to and chatted with someone reading a book in the Homecoming series.

I took Ender's Game and the entire Shadow series to China two summers ago and read them all over the place, thereby marking myself as a culturally ignorant American-raised kid. Alas, my copy of SotH ripped in two somewhere between Beijing and Jiamusi.

Going off on a slight tangent here, but I found the covers for the Chinese editions of Xenocide and Ender's Shadow on this website. No Ender's Game, and no SftD. I recommended the series to my cousins in China, who read very little English, but it would be hard for them to get a coherent picture of events from just the two books.

Also, if a Chinese translation of Ender's Game exists, I'd definitely get a copy for my parents. I explained it's plot and context to my dad, and he seemed both impressed and interested, but he finds it tiresome to read English literature. And I understand that- my Chinese reading skills are so poor that I can't even distinguish good writing from bad writing. The language barrier is too strong to overcome, no matter how brilliant and engaging the story...

I took Ender's Game and a few of the Homecoming books with me to Rome. I also bought Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow in Italian while I was there. Ender's Game, as well as random other OSC books, come with me everywhere I go, when I move into a new dorm or apt, it's there.
