It's a long-running joke now. How the EG movie has been in the works forever, and child actors like Osment and Lloyd were once considered.

The only extras in EG are likely to be either kids in Battle School or soldiers and officers on Eros. And they are likely to be cast in New Zealand. <grin>

I would love to be cast as the guy who comes in at the end and delivers the classic line from the book. "Who opened the spray cheese in the battle room?" That would be awesome!

What book was that? I don't remember that line! It gives me a really funny mental image though! :-)
EDIT: Huh, I just thought of something. They probably didn't have anything like that that the battle school students could take from the cafeteria, but if they did, imagine the strategic value of a spray can in zero-g? They wouldn't just drift, they could really fly around. I guess It could obstruct the lasers too. War paint!!
Of course, the only reason I thought of this was because of the computer game "Buried in Time" where to get in the space station you actually do have to use a can of Spray-Cheese to propell yourself.

the physics of paintball in a zero g enviroment would be difficult. Every time you fired the release of co 2 would just push you backwards.

Keep the Film in America... there is no reason to shoot it in New Zeland like there was in LotR. your only exterior shots can be shot in a week in NC such as in the book... and they dont even neccesarily need to be shot there... the rest can be shot in a studio in LA or in NYC. Support your fellow Americans in an industry that is losing much work to overseas "runaway" production. (I guess there might be some scenes that need to be shot in a Rotterdam like city depending on how much of Shadow you intend to keep in the book, but this is the only part of the story that would have any advantage being shot oversees... and you wont find rotterdam in NEw Zeland)

USA, USA, USA! I agree, but I really want to them to step up the production! I want to see all the null-G, the greulsome fighting, the simulater, etc., etc., etc.

You know what has great countryside and really cheap shoot locations CANADA!! You wouldnt have to train the extras to say neh and eh all the time, and City Hall of Toronto has been used as head quarters for numerous movies IE jackie chans The Tuxedo it was the Secret agents main base - in Resident Evil Apocolypse it was the downtown that they worked towards the entire movie then faught it out, Im Thinking pretty sweet looking IF earth base. Oh, no. Canada is even worse than New Zealand for snatching up movie productions. Do you know what percentage of U.S. movies are shot up there? <shudders>
Besides which, you just took away the Samuel L. Jackson movie from my hometown. Don't think you can get Ender's Game, too. We at least need a rock-paper-scissors battle first.

Canada is much better. It's closer to Cirque du Soleil. They're probably the only group capable of pulling off the zero-G battle room sequences.
If anyone here has seen Cirque's production of "KA" at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, you'll immediately know why.
And if you haven't, or you can't, I suggest you buy this:
Now, I don't get any money when you buy that DVD, but I will say this: I worked on that show. I led the mechanical engineering team that designed the two main stages, including the "Sand Cliff Deck." The Sand Cliff Deck is the 50' x 25' platform that rises out of the pit and is the central (mechanical) element of the show. It's a wild and strange feeling to see the performers APPLAUD your work wildly when they see it for the first time.
I sent a copy of Ender's Game over to some of my friends at Cirque when this project got started...to sort of get them started. A "viral meme," if you would.

I have issues with cirque du soleil also... not the performers, they are awsome... but the performers were trying to be part of the performing union and the producers of the show were not allowing it... from what I understand injury and such were not covered very well... perhaps you know more about this since you were closer to the scene... Besides, If you think that circue performers should be doing the battle room scenes then you dont have any clue as to how movies are made, to me it just sounds like you wanted to toot your own horn about what you do... I don't mind you doing this, but it seems silly to tie it to another thread that is almost completely unrelated.

I dont think I have on this site (maybe, i dont know) ... but my point was that if you are going to do it, just do it... don't try to pretend you aren't doing it. Or at least mask it better. By the way... I appoligize for my spelling and grammer, it is attrocious, but I am going to bed... to tired to fix it.

I think the equipment that cirque ds people use could be used for the BR sequences but clearly the actors are to old so it would be an issue, im not sure if children would have the leg strength to pull off some of those stunts.

The battle-suits had helmets, so the faces of the performers is not an issue.
Many of Cirque's performers are fairly petite, plus we all know from LOTR that scaling remains a viable option.
And, if nothing else, Cirque's performers would provide an excellent animation reference, and possibly motion-capture point clouds for the animation.

I have been working for almost ten years to become the technical consultant for EG:TMP. I have met with OSC, spoken with his assistant, exchanged correspondence with the previous producer with Radiant productions, had physical solid models of the battle school made, made presentations of my EG-related work at Endercon (and to OSC)*.
As much as I can do it, I am doing it. Only at this point am I resorting to a little shameless self-promotion!

Booth, reading back on my earlier post, it came across a little bit rude... sorry, that wasn't my intent. It honestly just sounded to me like you were trying to change the topic to brag about some work you had done. While I disagree about your comment "They're (Cirque) probably the only group capable of pulling off the zero-G battle room sequences" i will admit that perhaps some of their technology and skills could be helpful in filming. Yet it is by far not the only, and in my oppionion maybe not the best way to create this effect in film. Back to what should have been my main point earlier, I hope to urge filmmakers to keep as much production in the US as possible... the film industry has been losing a lot of work to other countrys in recent years. As for Cirque du soleil, the performers should be covered under the performing Unions jurisdiction for both Salary and Health reasons. Both of these issues are caused by greedy producers who just want to pay the artists less.

I was unaware of any union/contract disputes taking place between Cirque and their performers.
And yes, there are many different ways of making the effect happen, but if you've seen KA, then you'll undserstand that Cirque has done this already!
A couple of years ago, when Mark Fisher's first drawings for KA came into my company, the guy receiving them called me over and said, "Steve...you better look at this. I think it's Ender's Game!"
