Children of Men shared a lot in common with Elephants of Posnan, but then, so did Aeon Flux. If you ever worry about a story idea having been done before, just look at Aeon Flux and Children of Men. I really liked Aeon Flux, it was very cool, but Children of Men was brilliant. If you can detachedly consider that the F-bomb is not considered the crudest word that English people can utter, as it is in America. But the F-bomb in this movie achieved that threshold of no longer being noticed, unlike, say, "The Mexican" about which I found almost nothing redeeming.
I also think Clive Owen is really attractive. Like, I think I just might find him more attractive than Keanu Reeves. But if you are a person committed to not watching R rated movies, I am afraid it might be the case that his entire career that I am aware of is R rated, because I also saw him in Gosford Park, and he really tempted me to see "Closer".
The reason I saw this movie even though I usually cannot be persuaded to watch rated R movies is that the janitor at work gave me a copy. Though we rented a non-illegal copy, just because we're that way, even though we still have illegal copies of Star Trek and some other oldie but goodies. I was about to say Star Trek isn't in danger of going out of business from video piracy, but I don't know. Maybe that was the reason.
Anyway, I thought it was a brilliant movie. I was a little worried that the science end of it would nag me, but my husband figured out an explanation for that right off, which was the end of fertility was probably related to the flu pandemic. And hey you've got a movie in which Michael Caine gives a performance of heart-stirring courage by saying "Pull my finger!" I mean, what's not to love? It's part OSC and part Octavia Butler.

My wife has read the book, but not seen the movie, but says they cannot possibly be the same. Not saying it couldn't be a good movie, but she said the book reads very slow with maybe one genuine Hollywood type action scene.

I loved Children of Men. The last 30 minutes were some of the most intense moments I've ever witnessed on film.

I read the book and my brother-in-law saw the movie. We compared notes and have determined that this is another movie that is very removed from the book. I still want to see it though. I really liked the book. Dark and at times slow but very thought provoking.

Yeah, the movie seemed like one long chase scene. Probably nothing compared to Apocalypto, but still.

Yes, the movie is very removed from the book, from what I've learned.
However, Children of Men, the movie, stands on its own merits as the best movie I've seen in the last few years.
