OSC reviewed an Elephant and Piggie book this past week. I just wanted to jump on the E&P bandwagon and say that I think they're some of the best new early reader/preschool story books.

My girls have a gift giver (my aunt's husband's brother, known to us as Uncle Joe, though he's not a blood relative to any of us) who always gives books. And not just books but the BEST books. If Uncle Joe gives our girls a book, we have come to find, it is going to be a great book, one of our favorites. He takes time to search for the perfect book for each of them, and has a talent for choosing really really good ones.

Anyway, last Christmas one of the books one of them was given was My Friend is Sad-- an Elephant and Piggie book. At first, looking at it, I was less than enthusiastic. But since Uncle Joe had given it to her, I figured we'd give it a shot.

I was glad I had. I loved the story. The girls loved the story. And I loved the humor in the illustrations which they probably didn't catch at all. It was good enough to make me want to read the others-- and each one I've managed to get hold of has been equally good. [Smile]

In short, if you have small kids, or wish you were a small kid, go get you some Elephant and Piggie!

Today I Will Fly is my favorite, followed by I Am Invited to a Party. The latter is on the list because the sight of Piggie in a little cocktail dress and pearl earrings was too adorable. I thought the pigeon books fell off after, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, but that's me.
