Hey guys. I know it's been a while...I've had limited internet access since I've been back in school.
I never got around to sharing about my roadtrip to Greensboro, so I thought I'd do that.
I believe it was July 15th...anyway, I went with 4 friends to the OSC booksigning. It was awesome! Before the actual signing, Mr. Card had a Q&A session. He acts just like I imagined he would from the way he writes...animated, with a great sense of humor.
I had a lot of personal books and a few that I wanted to get signed for other people, so I split them up among my friends. Some of us thought that the line was starting on the opposite side of the table from where it actually did, so our group was separated. When my friend Ariel got to the table and mentioned to OSC that she was with a group and we had driven 6 hours, he was surprised and made an announcement. It was something to the effect of "would everyone in this young lady's group please come up here? They've driven from the depths of Georgia!"
Mr. and Mrs. Card were both very nice to all of us. Since all of us that went up there were in a community band this summer, we talked about music a little bit. I also told Mr. Card that I wrote an original composition called "Ender's Game", inspired by his work, which was to be our concert opener. He said he'd like to hear it sometime, which I thought was great. I'm not sure how I'd go about sending him a MIDI or anything, but I'd love to do so. I'm working on another piece now, called Second Invasion. Both of these pieces are basically my idea of what the soundtrack for the Ender's Game movie might sound like. I'm not a professional composer by any stretch of the imagination, but I am having fun.
Mr. and Mrs. Card, if you read this, thanks for a great time. Also, how could I go about sending you my music?

I'm kinda disappointed I couldn't make it. I found out about it too late and it turned out I was to leave for Europe that day....which was a complete bummer. Oh well. I really hope he does a booksigning somewhere or possibly even a signing tour (one can dream, right?) for the release of Ender in Exile.

I finished a string quartet a few months ago that I could definitely claim is meant to be "on the soundtrack" to Ender's Game... maybe OSC wants to hear it...
No, now that's just disingenuous. Although he did like my idea about the Ender's Game Symphony...
On the other hand, I have actual recordings, not midi, so I've got that going for me.

Hey, could you post the midi file somewhere? I'd love to hear it. I like to compose midi music too!
