The name of Orson Scott Card was not unfamiliar to me nor was it reminiscent of boredom, so I picked up a used copy of Speaker for the Dead a few weeks ago. [Smile]
It languished unread on my shelf until yesterday. [Frown]

Last night I read until I could read no more. This AM I technically finished reading it.

I say technically because this is one book that I will carry with me for the remainder of my life. OSC tells of the birth of this novel in detail and I was and am fascinated. [Big Grin]

To a minor extent I, too, am an author but it is not my main passion nor my profession.

After reading this book (as in a relatively few others in my 57 years of reading omnivorously since age 5) I find myself bigger and better than I was before I picked it up. [Big Grin]
Thank you, Orson, for your perseverance, talent and skill. [Kiss] I feel deep sorrow for those who read without feeling or perception. [Cry]

Jane joins Mike from The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress as an enduring person in my memory. OSC's rendering of her was in depth and with sensitivity. [Hat]

I am proud to now call myself a fan. [The Wave]

If you liked Speaker for the Dead then you should also like Xenocide and Children of the Mind. I suggest you read those next.

This does NOT follow. I loved "Speaker for the Dead", it's among my top favourite SF books of all time -- and yet I loathed Xenocide and Children of the Mind, they're among my *least* favourite SF books of all time.

It's like http://xkcd.com/304/ said.

Actually, out of the three I would say that Children of the Mind would be my favorite.

So I guess it depends on the person.

Hey Aris,
Did you find that xkcd from my previous post? Or is your loathing so prominent in your mind that you already to which comic you wanted to refer?

I was already a xkcd reader and had read that strip before you linked it in that thread, if that's what you're asking.

But in order to link it again here, I did save time by looking up its location from the previous thread, rather than googling for it, if *that's* what you're asking.
