now, im new here, and new to the EG universe, so i dont know if anyone has brought this up yet, but ive seen a nomenclature over-site.

In Shadow of the Giant, Bean leaves with Andrew (renamed Ender), Bella (renamed Carlotta), and a third child (though name and gender i dont believe are ever mentioned)

In Ender in exile Ender refers to these three children when talking to Randall/Achilles/Arkanian.
he names them as Ender, Carlotta, and Cincinnatus

In Shadows in flight its Ender, Carlotta, and Sergeant.

now ive just started reading Shadows in Flight so maybe there is an explanation about the difference in name for Cincinnatus/Sergeant. Or maybe i already missed the connection that was already made.

or maybe this is something that was missed and will be fixed in future editions along with other aspects of the EG universe as it grows ever larger.

Don't worry - continuity in Ender's Game can be a fluid thing, with newer works superceding the older. In this case, that wasn't so, but sometimes it will be! Glad you are enjoying the EG world!

Still it does raise the question of how Ender (In Exile) knows the nicknames Bean gave to Andrew and Bella, who were supposedly dead along with Bean. Especially when the nicknames were only told to Petra in a letter (in the super cute "Paper!" scene with Ramon) from Bean who was by then supposed to be dead, so she could tell no one. Also it is stated in Exile that Petra had not heard from Ender in decades (presumably since battle school)so again how could he know?

Though Peter read the letter, and he and Ender had to talk a lot for Ender to write "The Hegemon" which happened while he was married to Petra, so maybe Ender learned about it that way.

Inconsitancies are an author's way of improving a story. ;-) I do catch them sometimes as well, but ya just gotta let them slide. I remember when Bean visited the Wiggin home in North Carolina, he imagined Ender as a child there when in fact, Ender never saw the house. They lived in they city and moved to "North Carolina of all places" after Ender was already in Battle School. I didn't mind that part and I believe it was actually addressed in a later book, but I don't think they ever specified where Ender lived as a child. Does anyone know where it was? All I know is that it's an American city not in North Carolina.

The Wiggins still lived somewhere rural enough for Peter to crucify squirrels - or was that post Ender leaving?

Actually, it was addressed in the same book! Either by Theresa Wiggin or Bean himself, I forget which.

Actually there are multiple editions of that books, one in which there's a "fix" to that continuity mistake. So you're probably reading different editions.

Though it amuses me that out of the several continuity mistakes, ones much more important (like whether Ender stayed away of Earth because of Peter's choice or because of Valentine's), the *North Carolina* cameo is the one continuity problem OSC cared to fix -- something which isn't even particularly relevant to the story.
