Hello! I am a long time lurker, somewhere in the viscinity of four years, and now that I have some free time on my hands I thought I would start posting.

Anyways, I am an economics and mathematics major from a small liberal arts college in the Midwest, and just started a job in the D.C. area. My job focuses on reducing costs in the health care industry by reucing inefficiencies in th market. Sounds exhilirting, I know. But at least it will have real effects.

But back to the point, hello!

Woah! I'm an economics (and philosophy) major with a 9-course minor in mathematics from a small small liberal arts college in the Midwest, and just moved to DC for an economics "career." (I'm a first-year Ph.D student in econ at Georgetown.)

So how are you liking DC? Found any fun things to do or are you too busy with work? What specifically are you doing with health economics (for your sake, I hope it's not a bunch of data crunching)?

We should hang out sometime & talk economics! [Smile]

Hello everyone.

I am enjoying the D.C. metro area, you can't beat the metro for a nice trip to the suburbs.

Jhai: Right now I am doing some benchmarking in healh insurance plans for large employers. We do a little bit with health care reform, but most of our time is spent on reducing health care costs in existing plans (HMOs PPOs POSs).

And for anyone in need of a trustworthy source for your Viagra/Porn/Cialis needs.... Maybe not.

Well I've read a lot from the empiricists, but other than Locke, I never really got too excited about the work.

My definition of the Midwest is usually anywhere, outside of the major cities, you can see acres of beans or corn. Of course that only applies in the summer.

I have a few things to say:

1) Do you like rock music?

2) Let's make biscuits. LET'S MAKE BISCUITS!

3) You score some cool points if you can tell me what #2 is referencing.

Are you sure that there is no connection between the philosopher and the character from Lost? Let me rephrase: do you think Lost is about “silly coincidences”? [Wink]

Welcome, btw.

A.

And I bet Locke's character and John Locke the philosopher are more than a coincidence, too!! [Wink]

There's lots of that on Lost; Lisa's probably got a full rundown, if you're interested.
