If you don't believe me, go to www.biblecodedigest.com; or google and type 'bible code' w/(o) the 's' to learn how they broke the code. It said about the 'end of days'. Scary, huh?

Also, it tells you about "Mel Gibson".

With a book that large, you can find anything you want as long as you are flexible with the patterns you use. I'll believe this whole Bible code thing when it actually starts making correct predictions on a regular basis. Sorry to burst your bibl- I mean, bubble, but I'm not holding my breath.

How funny that they can predict these things after they happen...

"No man shall know the hour or the day" when the End will come. Which ought to give clue as to who was being refered to by "false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray".
And when others can easily demonstrate the falseness in the creation of their prophecy, one can be sure that the "Bible Code" authors and adherents are knowing and deliberate liars.

I thought it was that if you had a white Bible, you had only accepted Jesus into your yard; blue, into your house; brown, had dinner with Jesus; black, had intimate knowledge of Jesus.

Student has barbie pink bible on desk. student way too happy for 7:30 AM.

Asked by another student, "What are you ON?"

Student with pink bible replies, "I'm high on JESUS!"

...

.....it's a true story.

Premillennial dispensationalism has been around since John Darby (1800), yet none of them bothered to warn us about 9/11. Oops.

I think they did know about it, but did ignored it in favor of curing other rashes on other bodies first.

Let's hold secret rash hearings just to be sure, though.

There is a good reason you were kept in ignorance, Ralphie. The rash on your buttocks will teach you humility and grace while scratching. The example you provide will set precedents in behavior for MILLIONS of children. MILLIONS!!!!

Google search says:

A code used in Nintendo games Contra and Gradius (1988)

-and-

The lyrics to an Ataris song.

So, actually, I didn't know any of this beforehand... so I'm not a genuine nerd.

Quote from The Bible Code:
""Please forgive the shrinking coast line. To me Gibson appears joyous." is a 23-letter code that cuts through the Psalm 22 cluster. This cluster is built around the prophetic psalm by David, whose opening words Jesus uttered as he was dying on the Roman cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me?"
In Hollywood parlance, "the coast" is used to refer to Hollywood, and the first part of this code could be referring to the bottom line in Tinseltown. With the exception of a handful of movies, such as "The Passion of the Christ" and "The Lord of the Rings," the movie business has fallen on hard times lately. Key members of the Disney Corporation's board of directors are attempting to oust Michael Eisner, who tried to shrug off boycotts by several significant Christian groups in recent years. And the television networks, pressured by the proliferation of cable channels, have replaced many Hollywood productions with reality shows, putting thousands in Hollywood out of work. "The Passion," by comparison, broke box office records in its first week of release."

Wow. Thats amazing. I wonder if there is anything in Romans about Walt Disney. Or in Revelations about G.W.

In case there is anyone who takes this hidden codes business seriously, here is how the con works: Set up your computer to scan alternate letters at increasing intervals, forwards and backwards, thus generating millions of lines of essentially random sequence letters. Now have your computer scan through these millions of lines of generated text for short spans were words or recognizable names are spelled out. Then review the list of all the hits, and see if you can think of anything that seems relevant. When you find some (which you virtually always will), review the "rules" of scanning that generated this list, and then tell people that your alleged prophetic message was "hidden" in the text, awaiting your mathematical discovery.

In the movie, The Omega Code, I love the scene where the hero, a professed agnostic who is hyping these hidden messages in the Bible, was asked by the TV interviewer, "If you are willing to believe these hidden messages encrypted in the Bible text, why aren't you willing to believe what the plain text says?"

People want miracles they can control, miracles that exalt their own human cleverness.

Of course, many of the people who delight in these alleged hidden messages urge them as evidence of the inspiration of the Bible. They delight in finding messages like "My name is Yeshua" encoded in the Hebrew text for Isaiah 53, which speaks of the "Suffering servant," which Christians recognize as Messianic prophecies speaking of Christ. However, Jewish critics readily discredit this "hidden code" by pointing out that the letters that spell Jesus' name in Hebrew are the most commonly used letters in Hebrew, it only takes three letters, and the whole expression "My name is Yeshua" requires only a very few more characters, since there are no vowels in Hebrew, only consonants. You have to guess by context which vowel sounds to insert, and where. The name "Yeshua" in Hebrew should mathematically be expected to occur several hundred thousand times in the Hebrew Old Testament.

There are some places in the Bible where a few codes apparently were deliberately implanted in a few sections of the Torah (first five books of the Bible) by the Masoretic scribes, the ones who maintained for 500 years the Hebrew text we call the Textus Receptus. They can all be read either by counting off 50 or 49 letter sequences (both numbers are significant to Jews as suggestive of the jubilee cycle). The text could be arranged deliberately this way, because Hebrew can be expanded and contracted a few letters without changing the meaning. It is suspected the Masoretic scribes did this as an additional aid to them in making sure that their hand copies of the Bible text were error free. It was the next best thing to a check sum digit like computers might use today. The messages were not prophetic, however.

Heh. I wrote a movie/play/script about the same sort of thing (codes in innocuous prose) only with Shakespeare.

See, Shakespeare predicted everything ahead of time, largely important numbers- almost exactly this. Only I knew I was writing a fantasy.

Ron's description is dead on. A person can find a message about anyone or anything using this method in a text as long as the bible. I bet I could find something about Dagonee being a wonderful person and smart as all get-out if I took the time. Conned Again, Watson! Cautionary Tales of Logic, Math, and Probability has some great analysis of this phenomenom. It also explains a lot of other common misconceptions about math, statistics, and probabilities.
