It's so nice to see you all again. I just finished the two most agonizing months of my life ("Come on, it's just Air Force Basic Training."). I don't care what service it is, it sucked. But now I'm out and here I am at Tech School. I'm at the Presidio in Monterey, California learning to speak Mandarin. Actually I won't start for another three months because the Air Force glitched and booked 100 more linguists than they should have. So I'm pulling weeds until they educate me.

Anyway, I don't have much to say. I'm using the computers at the Rec Center, and I won't actually have the time to post for another month but I just wanted to stop in and say hi.

So much has changed. Look at all these smilies!

[Party]

You might as well get used to idiocy like this. [Smile]

Glad you finished basic. Hope your permanent assignment is somewhere nice and not a como van parked on top of some mountain out in the middle of nowhere.

Great to see you. Good luck. Damn, learning Mandarin, that will certainly take all your skills. The only thing I remember, phonetically is "Wuh-butz-ool-dow" or something like that that means "I don't know", something I figured would be important to learn to say to a girlfriend of mine, years and years ago.

Very good. [Smile] I got to spend last weekend with her. It's nice being able to talk to her on the phone. By the end of the month I'll be living with her again. [Big Grin]

Yes, Air Intelligence Agency under Air Combat Command. I won't get any intel training for another year and a half.

They say the most likely place I would be stationed for my first assignment as a Mandarin linguist is Hawaii. My life sucks [Wink] .

If anyone wants to write me (because getting letters is awesome [Big Grin] ) I can be found here:

AB Webber, Shon C.
441 Chaplain Magsig Ave
Box #2576
Monterey, CA 93944

Nice to talk to you all again. See ya later. [Smile]

Monterrey, then Hawaii... What sort of country club are we running here???

By the way, you can come pull weeds on my lawn anytime your government feels the urge.

FYI:

The most popular book(s) running around the Defense Language Institute is the Ender Saga. There's a copy of each book being circulated amongst the Squadron. My roommate is reading Speaker for the Dead. I've always understood that they were popular in the military, but it's really something else when you see it for yourself. [Big Grin]
