Am I the only one who has ever had the urge to do any of the following to their computer, pull it off the desk and throw it down from some where high up, smash it with a hammer (preferaply a sledge hammer), or shoot it (I don't have a gun but it still seems right).
The really weird thing is I always want to destroy the monitor when something goes wrong even though it is really just the messanger.
I've tried three times to post a much happier topic [Smile] but my computers problems have lead me to this state --> [Wall Bash] I don't feel like writing the other post anymore, but I still want my computer to actually work long enough to post a topic so here goes round four.

I have had that feeling all too often. My personal choice for disposing of the computer would be defenestration.

Good thing the window is all the way on the other side of the room! [Big Grin]

Because "defenestration" sounds like a very posh naughty word but is, in reality, totally legit and actually very useful, I will be overusing it for a minimum of (but not limited to) one week.

The word of the week is "defenestration."

As in, "The throes of passion blinded Percy and made him dizzy so that, during his wild embrace with Cordelia, he ended up defenstrating her."

That's some dizzying passion, baby.

Edit: Ooh! Ooh! I shall write a story based on this scene and call it "Bad Impulse" - catch it!

Ralphie, shouldn't that be "he ended up defemestrating her."?

I'm talking about a little harmless throwing someone out the window.

What are YOU talking about?

LOL! I love that word -- have for years. Listen to it flow off of your tongue, trippingly.

A word with historical connotations, which sounds quite Continental, and has the added bonus that Ralphie pointed out. What more can you ask for? [Wink]

And Morbo, threatening Ralphie (even obliquely)is NOT good for one's health, you know!

Marek, I understand. I'm so fed up with Windows ME bugs that I will finish my thesis and put Windows XP on my computer.

I said "a fem," not any fem in particular. Sheesh! Last time I share one of my more misogynistic daydreams. I'm so misunderstood. [Cry]

I take out my anger with my computer (although usually we have quite a good relationship) every time it starts up. The fan makes a lot of noise until you give the computer a good solid wack on one side, then the it goes quiet.

A screen I once had had the same fault, the screen would start to whistle, and the only way to stop it would be to whack it.

This way, I will never have to defenestrate [Big Grin] my computer. Anyway, I think defenestration has more appeal when you are above the first story.

Well, since this thread is now about defenestration, I guess I should derail it a little back to the original subject.

How about leaving your computor on--and throwing it into a salt water pool! That oughta make it think twice!

I could defenstrate my computer but it would only fall like a foot and a half to the ground [Grumble] . This is why I said I should throw it down from some unnamed high place.
I feel I should add the story of how my friend says her brother fixed his computer, trust me it is a good one:
His computer used to freeze up, or turn off, or disconnect from the internet at random times. So to fix this he took out a baseball bat and smashed his computer,(he didn't just want to smash it he actually did) then he swept it into a pile on the desk and left it there. When he baught a new computer he put it right where the old one had been, with the remains of the old computer now on one side of it, and a baseball bat on the other side. The computer works perfectly. [Smile]

I think that post should make thmy computer think twice, but just incase *goes and gets a hammer and sits it next to computer* that should help. I just don't have enough extra salt to scare the computer.

When I was coding on my laptop in college I used to threaten to throw it out the window quite frequently.

It sometimes even listened. Although, I think having a first floor window made the threat somewhat less impressive.

I think any preson kept up late because of some computer related project has had the desire to see it go crashing from 20 story building.

Our IT guy and I went out one day and pulled an errant hard drive. We smashed it with hammers and broken cement boulders. Then we each took one of the actual discs out to keep.

I folded mine into quarters and kept it close to my terminal, just to teach the other computors what was in store for them, should they get out of line.

My techno-fetish seems to have worked....
