Does anyone think that Arnold...um...I won't attempt the last name, you know, the terminator guy, should he be elected governor? I really don't have much of an opinion on this topic, b/c I don't keep up on too much political stuff unless I have to, which is hardly ever. Or, if I'm just bored, but that's if I'm bored of reading or writing or the internet. So, that's, again, hardly ever. I was just wondering. I also wonder how many people want him to be in the government b/c they think that he actually has governmental potential, and who wants Arnold as governor because they think he's a good actor...

No. Arnold is an actor, and I am very skeptical about actors in politics. As I have stated before, living near Fresno I have been able to observe an actor turned politician at fairly close range (Alan Autry, who played Bubba on In the Heat of the Night, is presently Fresno's mayor), and it isn't pretty.

Oh, right, I seem to have forgotten the ol' cut and paste, there, Kayla. No, j/k. And everyone, I mean Arnold Schwarzenneger, or however that is. I'm not very good at speaking Austrian. OMG, come to think of it, I can't speak it at all !!! All this time!! Okay, enough of that. But, I read this article somewhere that said Arnold's real last name - he took his mother's when he went into acting. What was it? Oh, blast this filthy memory. Anyways, it was not difficult to spell, like ... Arnold's mother's name. It was not Austrian. Plus, who's this Ziffel character? Green what ? I'm confused.

Arnold's birth name was Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger. In Hercules in New York (1970) his screen name was Arnold Strong. I believe that is the only movie he made without the Schwarzenegger moniker. The internet is a wonderful research tool.

One fun aspect of Schwarzenegger running for governor/president is that he's had a colorful past and a lot of it is already documented, which'll make for less "surprises" after (if) he gets elected... if I remember right, didn't some nude pictures of Schwarzenegger appear in a gay porn magazine when he was younger? It's hard to imagine anything else that can come out to top that...

Im just worried that people are going to elect him because...well...cuz hes Arnold! I personally don't want him to win, first of all because I tend to lean more towards democratic candidates (but not always, just look at Gray Davis), and also because if hes elected, then NO TERMINATOR 4!!! I would be heartbroken.

The thing is, pork is already a part of the system, like it or not. I'm not sure the system can handle beefcake.

Why is it not Ok for an actor to go into politics? It's not like every politician has Ph.D. on politician sciences (or whatever it would be called if, indeed, such a degree exists). If the seem passionate, genuine and intelligent that puts at least on par if not past the other candidates, right?
I just don't understand why so many people say, "Psh. He's an actor." and dismiss it.

I actually conside Arnold an immigrant businessman. He made his first million before he had his first speaking role in a film, so his first success wasn't as an actor.
And his first success in films wasn't as an actor, but in the documentary, Pumping Iron, where he was just being himself. That's when he started getting popular.
Acting only came later for him, only after he'd been really successful at his own business and real estate stuff, and become Mr. Universe umpteen dozen times.

OH! AND A PREDICTION!
I think we will quickly see a very anti-Arnold article from OSC. Arnold seems to be the Anti-OSC. Whereas Card is fiscally liberal and socially conservative, Arnold is fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I fully expect Card's keyboard to crank out an essay or two in the near future that should please the hatrack libs greatly.
Doc
(Who probably doesn't vote like OSC, but wouldn't vote for Arnold, either)

I took this American history class last year and my teacher said that you couldn't run for government if you weren't a citizen of the country you were running for by birth, even if you are naturalized. What's this mumbo-jumbo about?

Alright...I'm not understanding how anyone could think to make a Terminator 4 w/out Arnie. He is the draw for most people, not the story line, althought there will be some hardcore Terminator fans like myself who would see it anyways.
So, any of you from California, don't vote for Arnold, because I want Terminator 4!!!

quote: It happens that I think Schwarzenegger is a ludicrous choice for governor of California. But then, he's the perfect anti-candidate for me. Right wing on money (though it's not like he has a track record) and p.c. on moral issues, he's the worst of both worlds, as far as I'm concerned.
But, I do not think the essay will please the Libs much.
I keep waiting for OSC to really let a good one fly against the right wing . . .
. . . I know it's coming . . .
